Oneshotonekill and Bear Arms Jim made it out to the wide open today to do a little playing. We both had the itch to send some a long way. We got stretched out to 680 yds. It took a second to get the wind figured just right. We are shooting a 700 PSS with a VX-lll LR Mil-Dot, Federal Gold Medal Match 168 gr. off a bipod with rear bag, prone.

Listen for the ping in the video.

Good shooting! Looks like fun. I'd love to be able to do some long range stuff, but don't have a long range rifle right now. The CETME's pretty good for 100-200 yards. My AR15 only has iron sights, and my eyes aren't good to 680 yards anymore.

My .22 is dead accurate, but I'd have to send the bullet downrange on a bus for it to make it that far.

We had to dope in 127" of elevation and 18" of windage. At 680 yards the impact barely scratch the surface of the 3/4 steel plate

How much of that was hold-over and how much in scope adjustments? Very impressive shooting to say the least. Had to make you guys feel really good to hear that distinctive lead on steel "dink" !:rockwoot:

We did it all in the scopes target knobs. It was actually 147" of drop, I told him wrong after the fact, my mistake. We are both pretty good shots, whats funny is he can shoot better with my rifle and I can shoot better with his. He wants mine, but I ain't coming off of it!!!

Yeah it was verry cool to hear it ring. Neither one of us had ever shot that far. Ive done a lot of studying the charts and numbers and had an idea of what to do. It is definately humbling when you have to dope in the scope, but then still have to wait for a slight lull in the wind to determine your hold....breezey left shoulder hold, lull in the wind, center mass. We'll definately be doing it again.

That's probably around 85 elevation clicks from a 100 yd zero & around 75 from a 200 yard zero. Fantastic fellas...

    2650 fps, .462 BC, 168 gr

    I'm shooting a 700 SPS with a 26" 1 to 12 twist barrel in .308.
    168 gr A-max bullets .475 BC at 2,756 fps
1.5" scope height set 1" high at 100 yards.

At 500 yards I dial in 9.5 MOA or 47.5 inches
At 700 yards I dial in 17.6 MOA or 123.2 inches
At 1,000 yards I use 34.5 MOA or 345 inches (that would be 28.75 feet of hold over)

And yes, it is great to hear that gong when you have everything dialed in correctly.

Sounds like the scope's zero for that load is approximately 205-210 yds?

We dialed 22 minutes of elevation, 3 minutes and 2 clicks of left windage. Center mass hold on light wind, left shoulder hold for breezey.

Factory 700 PSS with Leupold VX-lll 4.5x14x50 LR Mil-Dot. Federal Gold Medal Match 168 GR. Matchking.

Once we had the wind figured out we could ring the steel everytime we pulled the trigger. We noticed about a 5" difference in POI between the two of us at that distance. I'm guessing it's from how we look at the target behind the crosshairs. We have shot each others rifles at 100 yds and can both shoot 1/2 MOA shooting each others guns. We just shot mine at that distance only because his didn't have the proper glass to make the adjustments. To our amazement though, after we had it figured out, he did the ol' Kentucky windage and hit the target on his second shot. It was quite humorous to say the least...I think he did it twice too.
