What would be a good price for MRE's? Is there a reasonable place in Indiana to get them, or do you all order them?

That is a common question on here anymore and pops up every week or two. Unfortunately, right now you will struggle to find many at a good price and not many local places have them. You will have to go online for the most part anymore.

Sorry for the lack of help

Check Longlifefood.com They are in Richmond. I ordered stuff from them years ago and were good to deal with then. They offer qty discounts, and you can get the individual components or the whole mres from them.

do you happen to know if they are online only or if there is a store in Richmond a person could go buy them at in person? (shipping is normally what kills the price of MREs online)

In Desert Storm my unit got the older versions. I fell in love with the corn beef hash. I've never tried the newer ones with the heaters in them. I did a quick search before I posted and saw that there have been group buys. Maybe that may happen again someday. I would like to have about 8-10 per family member.

I have had both and the newer ones are quite a bit better and I could not complain about the older ones......

Newer ones have milk shakes that you just add water to that are not half bad..

On another note the topic of this thread should be added to a FAQ..... seems every week someone asks this question.

What is the shelf life of the 'new' MREs?

I'd like to store a case for shtf scenario. But if life is too short, it could turn out to be a waste of money.

As a general rule, I don't drink the milkshakes. Can't say that I ever tried one because after hearing about the chance of salmonella I just decided to pass.

I dont see it as a waste of money. If they are nearing the exp. date, you eat them. I ate my y2k stash for a long time at work. my :twocents:.

btw, "a case?" I'd store more than 1 case.

OP, have you thought about just picking up some entrees and maybe supplementing your supplies with other things such as peanut butter? It would be a bit cheaper and you could cut the size down on your storage space needs by just having an entree and other preps stored.

Sorry if this ended up being annoying for you regulars to this part of INGO. I didn't do a google search of the site which probably would've given better results. Thanks for responding anyway. It looks like MRE's are going for $82 a case(12 meals), but I haven't got to the shipping cost part. It may be worth a trip to Richmond.
Of course the family will want to have a meal of them initially which I could consider training.

The longlife website states free shipping. If you are fairly close, then I would check with them and see if they would knock more off if you pick them up.
