I'm looking for a full-size .45 handgun for home defense and to carry every blue moon. The only guns I know I'm not interested in is the Glock (grip too fat) and 1911 (have it). Right now I am considering the M&P, which I had before and should have kept. I would also like to have a rail for a light, so can you guys give me some other suggestions I may be overlooking?

    In the running:
    1. FNP 45
    2. M&P 45
    3. HK 45
    4. Sig 45
    5. Ruger P345

Thanks for the input so far. I don't think I'll consider the XD because I find the grip safety annoying.

The EAA doesn't have a rail if I recall correctly. The FNP is definitely a good option.

I do think they have some models that do, I can't remember. I thought you might like the FNP since its got the DA/SA trigger. With my FNP-9 the DA pull is pretty heavy, but the SA is light and very nice.

I know you said no Glocks, but you might look at the G36. The grip seems to be slimmer and feels good. One of the reasons I went with the 36 instead of the 30 is because of the grip.

You think the Glock has a big grip, the FNP45 seems huge to me and I have a G21 non SF by my bedside.

I would not put a light on my HD gun since you have to point your gun at what you want to light up and if that turns out to be a family member, not good. I would rather control the light with my left hand separate and have an Olight M20 r5 Warrior where everything can be controlled by one hand (no twisting).
