I would not put a light on my HD gun since you have to point your gun at what you want to light up and if that turns out to be a family member, not good. I would rather control the light with my left hand separate and have an Olight M20 r5 Warrior where everything can be controlled by one hand (no twisting).

    Glock light on my 17.

There is enough floodiness, rather than pure spot, to light up a room in an average suburban home without pointing the gun/light directly at the threat.

That said, it is my HD bedside gun but there is a 230 lumen Fenix lying right next to it. ;)

    M&P45 + Crimson Trace backstrap + TLR1.

Cheap, and works for me. Its also very slim, and fits in the same holsters as the M&P9.

I wont own a handgun that "Is only good for a nightstand, and is too big to carry".

    All my handguns are carryable.

IMO your first listed choice is the way to go!

Now that's nice and I like the narrow grip. The narrow grip would be nice, just in case my wife has to use it.

The only .45 handgun that I've enjoyed shooting as much as my Glock 19 would be VUPDblue's M&P45.

FNP tactical .45 with trijicon RMR, light on the rail, and suppressor. IMO that would be the absolute tops for a HD pistol.

Glock 37 fits my hand perfect I keep one with XS Big Dots and a Streamlite M6 light as my bedside weapon. The 21 was just too big and I love the Glock GAP's, the 37, 38, 39. It's a shame too many people won't consider this borderline-perfect (accurate, soft shooting, .45 ballistics, great fit in the hand) platform.

I was going to suggest an XD until I saw your comment about the grip safety. Since you own a 1911 with a grip safety what is it about the XD's that you find annoying?

Great point. I don't depend on my Springfield TRP for home or personal defense. It is only used at the range and hopefully for competitions this year.

My partner at work has a Glock 21 SF with the RTF finish and the interchangeable backstraps. He has really small hands and loves it. Says it fits his hands better than his 17 did....

I know it's not a .45. Just showing you can mount a light without the adapter...

    I second the M&P 45. I LOVE Nick's.

    BUT.

Since you're used to the Glock, why not buy the .45, and shave the grips? Wouldn't it be best to have a home defense gun that you are already used to training with?
