I need help from you in the know guys on a project im finally going through with.

I want a 9mm SBR AR style rifle with a permanently attached suppressor (maybe). so my questions are: what barrel lengths are the best for this and what suppressors should I consider? I would like it as short at possible without causing ballistics to suffer. also is permanently attaching the suppressor even a good idea? maybe I should make it removable? Also which manufacturer for the rifle would you recommend? I really would hate to cut down a colt, but if i need to for reliability then I will. any help and suggestions is appreciated! Thanks!!!

since it will be blowback operated barrel length can be whatever you want it to be. Mine is a 5.5 inch barrel with a trident 9 suppressor that attaches to it. Also you will want to get the bolt ramped so it takes slightly longer to cycle. The buffer you will want to use will be the heaviest one you can find that will still let the rifle cycle. The only upside of having the suppressor perm attached would be so you would only have 1 tax stamp but it would still have to be 16 inches and you couldnt use it on any other weapons you have. I will post a pic of mine below for ideas.

I bought all the parts and built it myself. I dont know of any companies that make stuff like that and if there are it is still cheaper to build it yourself probably

The only reason to permanently attach a suppressor is if you want a short barrel + suppressor that > or = 16" so you can avoid making an SBR.

If you plan to register it as an SBR anyways, then I wouldn't permanently attach it. This way you always have the option of putting it other guns of the same caliber.

How long is your rail? 9 inches? I'm curious what it's like to shoot without the suppressor. In my head it doesn't seem right to have a rail longer than the barrel. I'm a noob though:):

I admit I went the easy route. Just took a Busmaster 9mm AR Pistol - Converted it to an SBR and added the Suppressor.

But mine is a two stamp because I use the suppressor on my 9mm pistols as well.

If your wanting short as possible I wouldn't go permanently attached.

Any reason you were thinking of going that way?

brain fart on my part. i forgot about the 16" thing (i was thinking pistol by mistake). I was thinking i would save $200 bucks. but i dont want a 16" 9mm rifle, even including the suppressor. I want it maybe even shorter than the one above, if possible. im just wondering which manufacturer is known for better reliability? I dont wanna have $400 in tax stamps in a gun for it to be a piece of ****. I do want the rail to cover the barrel and a lot of the suppressor.

I though maybe it was something like that.

If your starting from scratch and are building a dedicated 9mm AR SBR, I recommend the following.

    1) Use a dedicated 9mm AR lower, CMMG makes one. Or, use a "regular" AR lower and use a Hahn mag-block.

    2) Barrel length can be any lenght you desire, but I suggest no shorter than 5".

    3) Decide how you want the suppressor to attach to the barrel, ie: thread on--H&K 3-lug type--"other". (This will come into play when choosing your suppressor.)

    4) Are you wanting a suppressor that can be used on other hosts, like on your pistol? (Again, this will help determine what suppressor to buy.)

    5) Use the heaviest buffer and spring weight you can find. (I use a custom job made by a guy on Ohio. It is stainless steel, weighs a little more than 9oz and is also a little longer than a regular buffer to limit bolt travel.

    6) Buy a "ramped" bolt, or have a regular bolt ramped. This mimics the ramp on a 5.56 bolt and reduces FCG wear.

    7) Use a rounded hammer, DO NOT use a notched hammer.

    8) If your wanting the "SD" look, meaning the suppressor is encompassed by the forearm, do your research. Some of the popular forearms don't have an inside diameter big enough to "swallow" some suppressors due to their given outside diameter.

Other than the above, everything else is basic AR 101.

Old pic of my 9mm AR SBR. It doesn't look like this anymore. (Different optic and buttstock.)

Barrel length is 5" and the suppressor is a SWR trident 9. (Correction: My barrel is a 5.5" TROS 3-lug.)

It is due for a rebuild.

You could also check out Spikes Tactical for some parts. Tros makes 5.5in barrels. I'm going with a 3 lug mount for mine. You will also want to make sure the suppressor fits under whatever rail you buy.

Hey king how about some specs on that bad boy I think I just found my next build.

mine is just a standard ar lower with 556 parts kit and I have a top mount hahn mag block. I bought a stripped 9mm upper and a tros 5.5" barrel. The rail is a daniel defense m4 9 inch rail. When I bought my rail only the DD m4 and yhm rails would fit my can inside of it, so be sure to check the ID of the rail before you buy it. I have a ramped bolt from m60 joe and I think my buffer is 7oz. topped it with a aimpoint comp m4 and a SWR trident 9. Its a blast to shoot and everyone should build one its not hard

This thread has prompted me to start the rebuild on my 9mm AR SBR.

Look for the Samson Evolution forearm and a new barrel, soon.

That means, I will have a TROS barrel and YHM forearm in the EE soon.
