How much do you pay, and what's your speed?

I pay nothing (work), but my speed is horrible (limited by OLD firewall).



I'm looking for a new ISP at home and want to keep the monthly as low as possible. No dial up.

Is the $25 / month a promotional rate? Will it change after 6 or 12 months? I just want plain old internet (fast would be nice) for a FAIR rate. I don't want the bill to change after a certain time period.

The problem with Comcast is you get skewed numbers. They have their "Speedburst" which gives you fast times for the first 10+ seconds of every download, but drops after that. So the speed test only sees the burst speed, not the steady-state.

This is one reason I can't bring myself to switch to them. They won't tell you the steady-state numbers, only the burst. So for gaming or netflix or file downloads/uploads I have no idea what it really does.

At home I run about 4.7Mpbs dl with ATT dsl (5Mpbs plan). Work is pretty slow right now, but it has to go through Washington DC (and there's 41k people across the country on it)

At the cottage I get 1MBPS/DL-256KBPS/UP and it is $15/mo (Frontier DSL). Next time I'm over there I'll pull a test for actual speeds.

It is one of the ATT business plans..Your average Joe at home does not need that....... you only really notice the speed even the top consumer packages when uploading huge files......

I know a lot of people that online game with the slow to medium speed internet packages no problem (shooter games)

If I remember right the bih advantage is movie download speed but then again the difference between the top package and the medium speed package or even the lowest package is like a minute or two?????

Only going to notice a difference between plans when dealing with HUGE files....

It's a Verizon Mifi, so I'm also limited to just 5GB of total data per month. Which is nothing. But it's the best I can get here without having a T1 installed, which would be just a dab over $600 per month.
