Well, not really. I just got in from a conference to find the wife let the Kirby guy in and he's moved all the furniture and was cleaning our carpet. I have heard that buying those things can be like buying a car. So, what's the good, bad, and ugly? I know my wife and I can say with some reasonable degree of certainly, we will be Kirby owners by the end of the day.

There goes my hunting equipment money! Thanks, Brad!!!! (that's another story). :): I will be selling some guns, because I'm not missing this hunting season. :xmad:

Oh no- those intruders were at my house some years ago! I loved the Kirby at first, but it seemed like it didn't take long to lose suction. That was many years ago, hopefully that has changed.

I want a Dyson. Which one do you have? We mostly have wood laminate floors, but some area rugs.

They came to my house a few months ago. A misleading sales person said that I could get a free carpet cleaning so I said "Sure, come on inside". They did clean the carpet so I was OK with that but it turned into a full blown Kirby sales demo. I told the guy right off the bat "There is no way that I am spending that kind of money on a vacuum cleaner". He went through all the motions anyway. At the end I did not buy and they left in a huff. But the carpet looked much better. Several weeks later, the spots that were there before reappeared as they always seem to after a cleaning.

That machine is well made. It is a tank. It has great suction. It is made in the USA. But they can't figure out how to make it affordable. They started at $2200 I believe and were down to $1400 by the time they left. Shows you how much mark up is in there. Too much fat in that deal for me. I bet they can go down to $700 without commission. Who knows?

Please don't buy anything without reading consumer reports and shopping around. That is a lot of gun money!

We have a Dyson, it's red, and has the ball thing, don't know what model it is. Thing works as advertised, and we love it. I remember my mom having an Electrolux when I was a kid, and she still had it when she died in 2009, that thing was a TANK.

    Kirby vaccum cleaners suck.

Seriously though, my sister bought a Kirby when she got married.
Everybody thought she lost her mind to spend nearly $500 on it.
She had to replace the headlight this spring, right after we had their 40th anniversary party

My mom had this old IEC Electra tank vacuum she'd bought from a door-to-door guy and used it forever. I used to ride around on it when I was a sprig. I saw one on a commercial for a local vacuum service shop a few years ago. Brought back memories.

We have the Dyson "animal" for pet hair, and it's about a year old now. It's an amazing product, works beautifully. They're pricey, but at least they have a five year warranty.

My mom and dad still use a 20+ year old model everyday, works great. But for me, not enough value:
    a) $2200?! That's about $1700 more than it's worth.
    b) What's that on the back. A bag? How quaint. No thanks.
    c) Those things weigh as much as my motorcycle!

My in-laws have a dyson and are very happy with it. And much more affordable for about the same quality job.

If you've got to let a vacuum salesman in let the Rainbow guys in. Those machines actually work really well and filter the air through water. My dad bought one about 20 years ago and it's still going strong. I buy the cheap Eurekas and just replace them every few years. They're disposable as far as I'm concerned.
