I'm curious why you chose what you did for CC. I'm thinking about buying something to carry and I would like to see the reasoning behind the decisions you all have made in chosing a gun to protect your life with. There's a lot of great guns out there, but I'd like to know why you chose yours.

Did you favor capacity, grip feel, safety mechanisms, revolver, auto, night sights, mags work with other guns, parts availability, or whatever.

    I'm just curious.

    Best overall for me.

Everyone and every situation they will possibly encounter is different. There is no universal best answer. The G27 that has become my constant companion was chosen for a variety of reasons comprising what I think is the best answer for ME. .40 ballistics, size and conceal-ability,comfort in carrying, capacity and availability of ammunition and price were all considerations. But after all was said and done I chose it because it's the one I like! :D

I went out and shot/handled just about every handgun possible, and I narrowed it down to which ones felt better in my hand and which ones I shot the best. It came down to the M&P 9c and the HK USPc.

I did the same thing when choosing a deep cover pocket pistol, and I handled as many as possible. The Ruger LCP came out to be the right fit for me.

At the risk of sounding like I'm being picky with words, I think every time you carry, it is (or should be) a different choice. The question makes it sound like people pick one single gun to carry, and I don't think that's quite right - unless you only have one, of course. :)

For me, it is more a matter of threat assessment. I have 4 guns with different attributes, from a 5-shot easily concealed .380, to a 15 round double stack 9mm, and a couple in between. For me, it most often depends on what I think I'll need in terms of concealability v. round count.

I certainly gravitate to 1 or 2 as "default," but it is more about picking the right tool that I think I'll need until the next time I get home and can make a new choice.

I have only been carrying for a few months and I have learned a lot in that short time. The first thing is that there are always tradeoffs, especially if budget is a concern. I have been through a few EDCs and still haven't really landed on one that I would carry every day for the foreseeable future. That probably says more about me than about the guns. I think the most important thing is patience. It is very easy to read a few comments, do a little research and decide "this is the gun for me". I have done that a few times. They were all good guns but they all have a drawback be it limited capacity, size, sights, functionality etc. Shoot as many guns as you can get your hands on. Make as many gun owning friends as you can and pick their brains. But remember, what works for them might not work for you. Be a sponge, learn all you can. Do research every day. Maybe someday you will find "the gun for you". For myself, the fun has been, and continues to be, in the search. Enjoy.

    Things to consider:
    Caliber
    Capacity
    Cost
    Comfort
    Conceal-ability
    Weight
Ergonomics (feel and natural pointing, ease of controls)
    where made.

They are important in their own rite...need to figure out the combination that works best for you. M&Pc .40 is what I ended up with as my EDC after much research.

I guess it is the cowboy in me that makes me want to carry a .44 and there is always one in the chamber.

Best reliability, capacity, and conceal ability..... for my way of dress, what I drive, what I do......
    multiple rounds on target fast....

    ^^ This
    Glock 19 FTW! :rockwoot:

The 9mm is a great round, enough power to get the job done and you can carry lots of those little rockets in a small package.Shot placement is the most important anyway.
Very reliable, proven track record, few parts, easy to clean, extra parts and mags are cheap and easy to find.
Many new designs are based on the Glock, I rather get the original, not the latest copy.
Small enough to CC yet a full size gun, also great size for OC.
No silly external safety to worry about, your brain and trigger finger discipline are all you need.Simple, draw, point, shoot.
    Light weight.
You can use G17 and G18 mags in it if you need more firepower.
Lots of holsters, mag carriers and such for it.
Rail for a light, great for home defense.
    Good price.
    Easy to find.
It's a freaking Glock, what else can I say? :dunno:

I carried a G19 for about a year before I traded it for my current EDC which is now a SIG P6. I wanted the P6 over the G19 because with it being a single stack 9mm, it's easier for me to conceal under my clothes. If you have a friend who has the one you are considering, see if he will let you see how it feels and conceals.

Edit:: 2cool, that's some great trigger discipline there...

You are right it's important where the gun is made.
If it's not made in Austria I dont buy it. :):

Glock 21, Simply because it fits perfectly in my hand, and I trust that gun with my life. As someone already said, comfort in not only carry, but grip as well are 2 very important features.
My glock 21 is perfect for me, but if you have small hands, It would never work.

Hate to be redundant but ...what he said, except, sometimes I carry a G30sf.
