Was at the muncie show yesterday, and noticed a few "deals" I had to chuckle at and say to my brother "OMG you have to see this".

There was a booth on the west side of the building with a smith and wesson 39-2...in fairly decent shape on sale for the low low price of....wait for it...here it comes...$1500....I looked twice to make sure it was gold plated or somthing.

Also saw a couple police trade gen 2 G17's in terrible shape for $529....doesnt a new glock cost $529?

Over-all I didnt see any killer deals at the show, but did see some peoples obvious attempt at satyr.

Lots of used guns selling for new prices.

Ammo prices were not bad...boxes of speer 9mm for $10 and I saw some Golden sabers for $17-19.

    God bless

I get the feeling at most gun shows that some dealers come to buy from individuals so they can resell later at their shop and and if a sucker buys something at their outrageous prices that is just a bonus.

How does this business philosophy work for them?

Do they hook enough "not knowing" customers to stay in business or are they playing both sides, the cheapest at the shop for the week, and the most expensive at the shows:dunno:

Vendors? or comments, the facts are preferred.

I went to the last gun show in Lafayette just a few weeks back and I carried in one of my newest aquisitions. A Winchester 1885 "Low-Wall" falling block rifle with an obvious custom stock.

Some passer-by asked "what do you have there?"

I told him it was a Winchester 1885 Low-Wall, but that it was not for sale. This man actually scowled at me and said, "..well what the hell did you bring it in for?"

    Excuse me?

I told him I was looking for parts, but that I wouldn't sell it to him, even it it WAS for sale.

I'm scratching my head wondering how they remain in business too. Dealers I know keep pricing the same as everyone else and don't raise prices to go to gun shows. Mark up in the Indy area is anywhere from 10-15% for new guns. So on a Kahr that we pay $350 for, we are making $35-$40. Have to sell a lot of guns to keep the doors open at that rate.
When buying guns shops can not give you what it is worth or they don't make money. If they don't make money they won't stay in business. Remember that when you have to save that $10 from buds over the local guy and there are no local stores left to transfer to. :dunno:

Just came home from there. Saw some of the "deals" ...always make me chuckle. Missed a real deal though (assuming it all worked) : Buffalo .22 revolver for $80. Ol' boy wasn't at his booth when we walked in, by the time I seen him back he'd sold it :(. Also saw an H&R 9 shot .22 for $100.

So, was it one of the collector grad 39s? A Lew Horton?

A no dash M39 with steel on steel is now that NIB.

What exactly were you looking at? Was it the CT State Police gun?

I buy a lot from local gun shops/auctions/individuals..on a new gun nobody can beat buds...i was looking for a walther ppk and buds has it 494 with free shipping so i can get it for 525 with ffl fee and because they only have stores in kentucky the transaction is tax free..i called a local store and their price was 550 +tax so the price is 583....this is a difference of more than 10 bucks ...i can save $70 by going to buds....this looks like a tough business to be in.

    Yup...meant satire...damnyou autocorrect!...

Forgot to mention those new sigmas for $425....guy was from out of town too...brought what appeared to about 300 guns...all new in the cases and all over priced...dont think I sawhim make a single sale and I was there for probably 4hours total.

Would love to support a local shop within reason.....but then again...there is that whole "reason" thing.

    God bless

Sir, so, what was it? Just a run of the mill 39-2 or something with collector appeal?

There are 39s that could fetch $1,500. Did you talk to the seller about it?

Price is just information. What did he have?
