    Indy317,

In fact I would propose new legislation aimed specifically at preventing cops from taking weapons apart from arresting and handcuffing a person suspected of a crime. It is SO much safer when you don't coonfinger guns you are not familiar with.

    Or even those you are....

There are definitely criminals out there with LTCHs. There are also what some folks would call "hot heads" with LTCHs as well. It was said to me that it was common for the one or two younger (18/19 yoa) gang members with no criminal record to get the license in order to carry all the weapons for a car load of gang members. Reports were that it wasn't uncommon to be dealing with four or five younger gang affiliated/members and that one person would have three or four handguns on just their person. An ingenious way to keep your buddies out of jail on a carrying w/o a license charge and/or felon in possession type charge.

And there are criminal cops, and cops that are hotheads too. It's just like any other walk of life. You get good and bad.

And there are a TON of criminals carrying guns that haven't BOTHERED with an LTCH. Which is why I for one, have chosen to CARRY.

I need to get on my computer and respond to some of Indy317 post, to hard to do it on my phone. A side note, I wouldn't want to run into Indy317 in person, he might want to disarm me "for officers safety".

    Cant win

Have found it best to just agree, say alot of yes sirs, and hope for the best. They have been known to cause people a whole lot of problems over something as small as rolling thru a stop sign. With that said most officers I've had dealings with have been very professional.

No, no, NO, just &$*&(# NO. You don't just "yes sir" it away. All you've done is reinforce that behavior and give away everything our founding fathers fought for. Be polite, be courteous, but do NOT just ignore due process and give away all of our rights.

    Major Failure.....

This is why some police officers think they can make up their own rules. And they CAN if everyone "Finds it best just to agree to anything they make up".

It would have been much easier on one hand to raise children if everytime they said "Give me", I just said "okay". But that would have led to having Grown children later in life.

    Easier does NOT mean better.

Can I ask Indy317 how you would handle a traffic stop with LTCH? There seems to be a lot of argument about crazy hypothetical situations... but I'd like to see how you realistically handle a typical situation...

I'm going 45mph on Arlington Ave just south of 21st St. You pull me over for speeding. I'm driving a Ford Ranger, 30 something male. As you approach the truck I'm holding my Drivers license and Registration.

Weapon drawn and aimed at your head - GET OUT OF THE CAR, FACE IN THE DIRT NOW!.

You comply. Officer cautiously approaches and applies AT LEAST two baton strikes to the back of your legs. Then walks backwards to his car and speeds off, running over your out stretched hand on the ground. As he speeds off he yells out his window SLOW DOWN!

I don't do much traffic. I've never made it part of my stop to ask about weapons. I assume everyone has a weapon, from a gun to a knife. There really isn't much an officer can do to 100% keep a driver from taking a shot at them. There are really too many blind spots when walking up to the vehicle. Obviously there are clues that may lead an officer to suspect something. I guess those are a usually unusual actions that some people might do while being stopped (ie: Immediately lean over as if grabbing something/trying to hide something maybe). Outside of getting on the PA and making every driver put their hands out the window, or hold them up in the air, it is just a risk officers take. I figure if it happens, it happens. Hopefully training will kick in and logic functions will work that will minimize harm to an LEO coming under fire.

There are millions upon millions of handguns out there. There are many, many people carrying them at any given time: People with licenses/permits, off-duty cops, others who are in one of the exempted groups. With the new state law, an officer may as well assume every vehicle has a handgun in it. Might not be on the driver, but officers should assume that every single vehicle they see has a handgun somewhere in vehicle. Some officers like to get illegal guns off the street. That isn't a focus I have, so I guess that is likely why I don't care to ask on a "routine" traffic stop.

That is the most sense you have made thus far.

One question though, what is an illegal gun? SBS? Machinegun? Loaded pistol without a license?

I just want to know your definition and if its the same as Mayors Against Illegal Guns...

The term "illegal gun," to me at least, means the confiscation of a firearm that wasn't being lawfully possessed. It could be due to no license, felony conviction, misuse, etc..
