Walked into the Plainfield Dick's Sporting Goods last week and was suprised to see them starting to sell different ARs other than the Remington models. They had a bushmaster AR. A little late compared to other sporting goods stores but good to see them expanding. Hopefully pistols maybe soon to follow. Probably not though.

Until they return to the great selection that Galyan's used to have, I refuse to shop at Dick's. It is nice to know that they are moving in the right direction, but I agree they have a way to go.

Usually I don't hold a grudge, but when it comes to the way Dick's stole and then destroyed Galyan's, I have a hard time letting go.

What's the story here? Dicks took over Galyans?

My dad wrapped a present for my mom in a Galyans box this xmas. Don't remember the store.

Yeah, Dicks Killed Galyans... I remember Galyans just built or moved into a nice office space in Plainfield. Months later Dicks Killed them.. Shame too! I loved Galyans the old retail store sits just West of PSS and is now some cheesy outlet furniture store.. I know a guy who use to work in Galyans IT dept. when they got bought they liquidated a lot of IT equipment.. he bought about 10 intel servers for next to nothing..

I hate Dicks. If it had another name, I'd feel differently. I was in a fairly unfamiliar city and asked someone if they could help me find Dicks. It hasn't been the same for me since.

They occasionally run a decent deal on ammo, and at least the stores I have been too will allow you to use coupons on ammo as well, although technically it is excluded (but the folks in the firearms section explicitly told me they would take them anyway). But yes I agree, Galyans was much better. Glad to hear they are starting to carry some AR's, etc. One of their executives probably saw one in a WalMart and had an epiphany about how a "sporting goods" store should actually carry some modern sporting rifles

Every time I fill out their feedback survey I make sure to provide some "constructive criticism" on their lack of selection related to shooting sports, etc, store layout, etc.

From the story I heard, from a very reliable source, not too long after Galyan's took out a fairly large loan to build their last two stores, Dick's bought up the note, then through some legal wrangling managed to get Galyan's to have to sell them the remaining stores to pay off the note. Bye-bye Galyan's.

While the way I remember it, and what I remember about the story I was told might not be 100% accurate, I do know that Dick's take over was not the nicest of business transactions.

If I remember the other story correctly, Galyan's was originally an Indiana store, based in Plainfield. They then expanded as their reputation and following grew.

I bought a shotgun from Gander Mountain recently. Never again. I will pay a few extra bucks the next time to buy from a local gun dealer. Worst customer service ever. I've had the same type of service at Dicks.

Galyans was the coolest guy store on the planet. I will do no business with Dicks
after some experiences we have had.

I think their first store was at 16th and Montcalm in the late 50's into the 60's. the area went in the crapper and they moved to Plainfield. Could be wrong but I remember going there with my uncles.

I thought Galayns got rid of handguns shortly after that dude killed himself in the way at Castleton Square Mall? He went in with a single 12 guage shell and shot himself with a store gun.

I can't see the Dicks in my area getting to the point where they will sell handguns. Maybe someday though. The place is kind of a "trendy" store.

Remington & Bushmaster, along with DPMS, have the same parent company anyway. :D
