" Why Ron Paul can beat Obama: He converts Democrats on war & civil liberty"

since when do dems like civil liberty? arent they the ones that continue to restrict us at every turn? sure they like gay marriage and abortion, but seriously this is the part of "we know whats best for everyone"

When it comes to expansion of police powers, Democrats are often the ones citing the civil liberty when Republicans are chanting for safety. Both sides support some liberty and trash other liberties.

I really like the patriotic image of Ron Paul that Rambone attached to his opening post. The information was clear and well thought out as well.

Ron Paul reminds me of some of the slightly less famous Founding Fathers who most people of today have no idea ever existed, unless they take the time to read. They were the ones (colonist leaders and pre-revolutionaries) who lit the fire that gave someone like George Washington the final push to "get back in the game". Let's be glad he did. George was one bad ass dude, wig and all.

Fast forward to this modern age and Ron Paul just may very well be someone who is sticking his neck out to get us back to a Constitutional focus. Very few are willing to take such risks, lawful as they may be in the first place. Regardless of his chances of winning the nominee or presidency, he is making history, most just don't know it yet.

Back in the late 1700's, many of those who stood against the British Monarchy had little insight that they were making history. If I guess right, they were giving us (that's YOU, ME and OUR CHILDREN) a future free of oppression, being taxed into the poor house and generally, as far away from tyranny as they could envision.

Nothing and no one is perfect but at least someone is standing firm and trying to do something good, and right, even if not 100% perfect. Who is ?

Ron Paul is running for president as a Republican. That means he has to win the Republican primary race. That means he needs a majority of Republican primary voters.

Primary voters are more knowleable and more politically sophisticated than people who only vote in the general election. They are also more ideological.

So to become the President, Paul must first win the primary race by getting a majority of Republican voters.

    What Republicans like about Paul:

In general, they like his small government views. They like his view of the Constitution.

What they don't like about Paul - The social conservatives don't like him. Spare me the argument that he's a Christian and that he's pro life. That may be true, but what distinguishes social conservatives as a group is that they want government involvement in many of these issues. They don't believe in separation of church and state in the way Paul does. They don't want drugs legalized. They don't want victimless crimes made legal.

Many Republicans dislike Paul's foreign policy views.

So, the primary races will tell us if there are enough Republicans who care more about small government and constitutional principles to elect him.

So, if he wins the nomination, he'll have to win over the independent vote and/or poach some democrats. He has a steeper hill to climb because it's unlikely he'll get huge Republican turnout. Big turnout for Republicans means the social conservatives come out in force, and Paul isn't their guy.

    Independents

This group is all over the map. Yes, some are libertarians. Many are just very poorly informed and don't make up their mind until just a few days before the election. These are the people who vote for Bush in one election and Obama in another. Hard to guess what they'll do.

    Democrats

What they like about Paul - Some of them like his stance on drugs, homosexuals, and victimless crimes. Many of them love his anti war stance.

What they don't like about Paul - They despise his small government views.

I've tried and tried and I just can't see any way he wins the nomination. If he does, I can foresee ways he could win the general. He still has a tough situation. Sure, he might pick up the anti war folks who are fed up with Obama's lies in that area, but how many of those also believe in smaller government? Not too many.

To see him winning you have to assume that there are actually a lot of people out there who basically believe what he does, OR, he will be able to convince people to see the wisdom in his viewpoints.

I'm going to write in a 3 headed president. Cain/Romney/Gingrich, they'll have equal share of the title and the stress of the job with 3 times the salary and 3 times the power. At this point, I firmly believe that these men are the only way to save this country. I understand they have different views and they may be in conflict quite often but if we back ALL of their ideas, we'll really be onto something.

Ron Paul is a disaster looking for a place to happen. He couldn't possibly be elected. The notion that Democrats would somehow flee Barack Hussein and vote for Ron Paul is, at best, naive. Assuming that he could carry more than a handful of states is again naive. He has a fringe following...nothing more. If he were magically President, both R's and D's in Congress would simply ignore him. They would override every veto he issued. He would quickly become the joke to all that he currently is to most of us.

Let's get over this Ron Paul fantasy as quickly as possible. Although he's no one's idea of what we want, Romney is the only GOP candidate left in the race (as of today) who can win in November. By default, we are all now Romney fans. There is no other way.

nope, I am tired of voting for whatever RINO the GOP wants us to support. They've already forgotten how much they appreciated the tea party support to get them the House and just assume that we'll all fall in line to get rid of Obama. The GOP hasn't learned a damn thing.

They are going to learn a HARD lesson very soon. One they didn't learn when they put up Dole... or McCain... or Romney.

Independants decide elections, and right now they are looking at Ron Paul.

Careful what you preach, I'll cancel your vote on principle alone.

Anyone who believes that Romney is "the only way", truly deserves Obama.

I do not understand why people still don't think Ron Paul stands a chance. If everybody who likes Paul who says that, would support him fully, his poll numbers would be even higher. I don't think he will win the Republican nomination, but he definitely has a good chance.

Because most conservatives/republicans love to say how they love the Constitution and freedom, until they are presented the chance to support both, and then realize that freedom (& the Constitution) means no entangling social safety nets. It's kinda scary to most.

I LOVE THIS RHETORIC!!! It's these kind of know-it-all comments that turn people off and actually strengthens RPs position.

I know when someone tells me how it's gonna be, I usually focus my efforts to make them look foolish, even moreso than they already do.

Thanks for helping the cause. Rep inbound.

Oh yeah, tell me the winning lotto numbers, I'll buy the ticket and we can split the winnings.
