I don't think we can draw from our holster at our range. Looks cool - I'll have to keep this in mind.

i carry iwb behind my right hip. its comfortable for me, and i can get to it fairly quickly, still working on that part at home in my free time unloaded. however, any time you are pulling the weapon there is a small chance for AD, not good for when people are around. when i did the drill, i would take my second hand off of the gun, and rest my shooting hand on the counter with gun in hand, i would pick it up and bring up my second hand at the same time to "simulate" the ending motion of a draw. i think the purpose here is quick acquisition, not so much being able to pull it out of your pants quickly. that, i believe is a whole different drill in and of itself, or at least that is how i am playing the game. makes sense to me.

That sounds like a good way to simulate the draw. You're right about the purpose of this drill focusing on acquisition and not the motion of drawing. I'll make sure to introduce this to my range buddies next week.

came across a link to pistol-training.com » Dot Torture a while back on here.
    .

Thanks for the link. I hadn't seen that one. These inexpensive (8X11 printed at home) targets are great little remindes of where we need to improve our shoointg. We use several different ones at work, but I hadn't seen this one.

I can already see the weak hand circle is going to give me nightmares.

24 out of 50 on a cold gun. 10ft. not as good as i had hoped. after shooting some 30 ft targets after, i found my rear sights are just a little off. going to try to fix this evening

I did this over the weekend with my G35 and got 47/50 from about 3 yards. It was the first time I have tried this drill, but it has become my favorite.

I'm going to try this again today. I've been staying in the low 40s as far as hit count is concerned at 3 yards but to be honest I could probably speed up the rate of fire to getting a better feel of how I'm actually performing in the drill.

Just remember, this drill is nothing about speed. You should go as slow as you have to to get the hits. When done in class, Todd constantly has to slow people down on this one.

48 today. 3 yds. Meant to time it for a baseline, had my timer set to combined comstock but didn't think to start it till about the 3rd string. 2 shots dropped were WH. Was doing draws and transfers. This drill was the very first rounds through my new G34, and one of my first times shooting a glock.

Did the dot torture yesterday with my G26 and Advantage Arms 22 conversion for my G26. It's very challenging and a good stress of the fundamentals. I've got more work to do.

I've been able to shoot it clean at 3 and 5 yards, i'm working on doing it at 7. It is a very challenging drill, and requires absolute focus on the fundamentals for an extended period of time.

It is a great fundamentals drills, but many times people try and make it into a speed drill and miss the point. As Jeremy noted, once you clean it, you can start pushing yourself for time, but until you can clean it slow what's the point in speeding up. When we used to shoot this a lot, we made heavy penalties (like 10 seconds) for every miss. That really forced people to focus on what was intended. I've also shot this on the small 1" square post it notes, that makes for a challenging and cheap target.
