Yesterday afternoon I was bowling with some buddies from work. I took my gun with me but left it in the glove compartment, but left the holster on my belt. We continued to bowl for some time and the games were getting heated. A co worker of my mine kept mouthing off to me and I ignored him. He seen my holster and proceeded to tell me I was weak and that's why I needed to carry. I told him nicely I don't carry a gun for the attention or to feel like a badass. He then asked me to ask me if I would sell a gun to his wife, I said no because I knew it would end up in his hands and he has been in trouble with the law. We finished up bowling and I was gathering my things and changing my shoes and was the last one out. He was waiting for me in the parking lot. He approached me and hit me in the face and proceeded to tell me I wasn't so bad without my guns. I tried to get him to leave before the cops showed up. He finally left as soon as the cops arrived. Should I quit carrying because one guy was drunk and made a scene or should I believe in my rights and carry proudly? Please help friends of INGO

You should have carried while you were bowling, you should file charges on him. Next time, when you have an argument with someone and they're "waiting" in the parking lot it should give you the first clue that something isn't right. It seems that you lost your situational awareness and it cost you, luckily all you have is maybe a bruise and a real awakening to the world around you. If you are upset about one guy, then maybe you need to re think your carry plans. I'm not trying to put you down but, if you carry you gotta stand up, whether it's the popular thing or not.

There are various ways you could have handled this. Please refer to the Billy badknee in this thread for instructions: https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo..._defense/190607-got_my_gun_grabbed_today.html

Seriously, IF this happened as the OP describes, an assault has taken place and co-worker has broken the law and charges should be filed. This guy obviously has some kind of criminal past, do you REALLY expect it to stop with just this one incident? Not likely, in fact, it very well could escalate. Be ready to protect yourself, be it with whatever you have nearby in the near future. Personally, I'm thinking that if you had carried the gun with you, he might have thought twice about punching you in the parking lot. I know most people would think twice--this guy sound like he could just be stupid and in line for the Darwin Awards for 2012.

Press charges, continue carrying. Is this drunken fool really big enough to take your rights away?

Some good info above. Why aren't you pressing assault and battery charges? If he gets away with these crimes, he will just feel entitled to take on any other gun owners.

I think you should sell all your guns since you are incapable of deciding how to handle this situation on your own and feel the need to ask strangers what to do? Seriously?? WTF?

Our company policy states if two employees have an altercation at or outside of work its an automatic termination of both employees. I'm not going to lose my job over some fool. You don't come by 80K jobs anymore. I refuse to lose mine.

Chin up and keep on trucking.

Oh yeah and did the cops go after him? If not why didn't they, I mean you did tell them the guy just assaulted you right?

Wait! I saw this one! They were germans, with swords and techno music. then this one guy hit one with a bowling ball and bit off another mans ear, while their friend died of a heart attack. I can't remember the name of the movie, it was about this Big guy named lebowski, he had lots of money and then there was this other guy named lebowski it was your classic mix up kind of movie. Now that I think of it. The name of the movie was.

    "Log jammin" or "Gutter balls"

Honestly that cant be true because once you are on your own time and not on company property they can't do anything about it. At least you wouldnt think so. I got into a fight with a guy I worked with at lunch after he accused me of sleeping with his girl friend, he hit me and I broke his eye socket with my elbow. Only thing your work can do is ask what happen other than that I don't see how they can do a single thing about it unless it was a company event.

To be honest I told the officer he didn't assault me. I didn't want to lose my job. That's what it comes down to. If I would of carried it wouldn't of happened. Thanks for the jokes and some good info.

Indiana is an at-will state. The company can pretty much fire you for any reason.
