J Wales, please don't take my comment as an US vs. THEM argument, as it's not. Heck, I wish citizens could have carried in the Stadium! I was very pleased that the Village was free carry, and I enjoyed carrying my G22 and various accessories (including my INGO Tactical hat.) I'm disappointed myself in the state of affairs when it comes to the 2nd Amendment and overbearing government interpretation.

My intention of the post was to bring to light that, regardless of badge or not, the guy's job was to be on the lookout for threats. It's those threats that are my biggest concern. He's a sheepdog, like all of us here.

Not only do I see terrorism as a real and dangerous threat, I also see over-reaching government as an equal - if not more dangerous - threat. We have to come to grips with a world where bad guys, no matter who they be or where they're from, try to hurt us and our way of life. Because of this, sheepdogs step up to protect, and those in power use it as a way to supplant themselves in positions of authority to maintain their power and control over the citizenry. For us as citizens, the key is to know where the line is drawn, who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.

I had not read your comments when I posted. Mine was a general statement.

    My apologies for any misperception.

I have absolutely no problem with snipers being stationed at high-profile events. And you don't get any higher-profile than the Super Bowl.

If you think he would just take somebody out on a whim, you don't know the first thing about the procedures of law enforcement.

Regardless of your views on the subject, the operator of said rifle could recieve some undue stress over the release of these pictures. I know he was there under orders, and with the full authority of his department and all the requisite alphabet agencies. That said, the powers that be most likely will not like all the attention the issue is recieving in the media (don't ask, that's just how the brass are.)

We all know this guy was set up to take care of the dirtiest deed - a terrorist act - not some Patriots fan who gets upset that Brady can only throw 20 yard passes. I know this man, and a lot of you do too. I unequivocally trust him to point that rifle in my direction if I were to ever be taken hostage. He needs our support rather than our second-guessing.

well said jsx...and i think fenway sums it up best

Agreed JSX, This man is a professional and class act.

Amen! The INGOer in the pictures is the epitome of what a SWAT professional should strive to be. We should all count ourselves lucky that one of "us" IS one of "them".

They need to do shots first?

There is now law or rule cops are to fire a warning shot before you get shot.

The people who feel the snipers at the super bowl was wrong are the first people to call 911 when something happens, then whine because the police did not have more security and let it happen. It's part of life in the 21st century, Just be glad they were there.

I have 0 heartburn over the utilization of such marksmen, pictures of said marksmen, or the (unintentional?) distribution of those pictures on the internet.

I only have one question...How was the view of the game from there? The top row tix were going for $4k leading up to the game, and those seats (even though they were not likely to get beer spilled on them) are obviously higher up. I mean, really, the only important thing here is how well you could see the game, amirite?

I'm no expert... but I have watched all the Discovery Channel sniper shows on Netfilx :)
But isn't it against snipers rules to stick your rifle barrel out from your shooting location?

for military purposes where concealment keeps you alive.......tactics and necessities change for law enforcement....they're not as concerned with someone armed with a weapon that could reach them accurately as they are with spotting a potential threat

Whethere IMPD or LAPD (the guys I know), SWAT are the most professional officers I know. These guys take the job seriously.

I don't think the photos were a good idea to take for the bipod manufacturer but I don't see the reason for the outcry.

I met some of the LAPD snipers when dad was their Watch Commander. Those guys actually had to work since we know how lovely Los Angeles can be. The SWAT have to be physically fit but emotionally too. They are all calm and very professional. Remember the North Hollywood Bank of America shootout? It was SWAT guys in that white car that stopped the BG in the Jeep. Even with BG in body armor, the officer with the shotgun took him down with well placed shots to the feet/ankles.

There is a reason the Marines train/learn with LAPD SWAT. The SWAT team is considered the best urban combat team in the world because they have so much field experience. Everyone one of them was prior military.

They should not have allowed the photos to be posted (duh) but I don't get the buzz over the snipers in the roof.

To the best of my knowledge all SWAT members have much more stringent physical requirements than typical officers. I don't know what LAPD has to do with this thread, or the point you are trying to make? :dunno:
I don't how long ago it's been since their SWAT team trained with military, but LA has their own training and facilities these days, or so I'm told by a relative working there. I was stationed at 1st MARDIV, right by the sniper school and never saw any non-military coming in for training. A number of special forces from other countries would visit every so often to train, but not LEO's that I ever saw/heard of. :dunno:
Although, I'm sure they maintain a close relationship with personnel all over the base because it seems like practically every building on the base that had a public billboard had flyers for LAPD trying to recruit Marines discharging.
