I went the other day for my appointment over at State government building 100 on Washington (in Indianapolis) to get fingerprinted in efforts to get my concealed carry permit (LTCH*). The lady who processed me never heard of a concealed carry permit (she worked for L-1), and advised me to talk to firearms division across the hall. She charged me $19.95 for services rendered (fingerprinting only). I spoke with State firearms across the hall and they advised me I had to go to the city police. I went downtown, where I paid $50 to be fingerprinted again and was informed that L-1 was only supposed to charge around $10, and that I was supposed to have paid the state $100 or so. They assured me that the state would contact me to settle the balance, and then a few days later I would receive my CHL (what do you guys actually call it here?). Has this happened to anyone else? I was under the impression that LTCH* wait times were in the ballpark of 6 weeks, I was quite thrilled to hear I would have to wait only a few days, but I'm concerned as to the mixup with payments and how confusing it was for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In Indiana it is a License to carry Handgun. It is not a concealed carry permit.

You go to your city PD to apply for the LTCH. If you do not live in an incorporated city, you go to your Sheriff's dept to get fingerprinted and apply.

You got fingerprinted by someone at the state office due to your ignorance. This set of fingerprints is not a part of the LTCH process if I understood your post correctly. I have no clue what L-1 stands for. I don't know how you can recover this cost that is not a part of the process.

For a lifetime LTCH, at some point you will have to submit $100 to the state for the license. The people in the city Police office should have advised you on when and how you submit this fee.

pretty much what has been stated is true....you got took by L-1 (they are not part of the gov from what i am told. They are a private security based company). Total cost to get your LTCH should be about $125 if i remember correctly.

Did you not research the steps, and costs in applying for your LTCH? A little research and time is all it take to completely understand the process.. jeez. Google is your friend.

Life time is $75 to the state and $50 to the City Police. 4 year is $30 to the state and $10 to the City and you wont get it in a couple of days. Its 6-8 weeks to get your LTCH in the mail. I did my application online which you have to pay your $30 with that application online and then the website will set you up an appointment to go get fingerprinted at the nearest location. You will then get f/printed and they will give you a piece of paper to take to your city police plus you have to have a $10 money order when you go to the city with that piece of paper. I thought it was all going to be a big hassle but it was very easy. The waiting period is what sucks.

If you apply online and do the L1 electronic finger printing the cost is $75 to state $50 to local PD and $10 for the L1 fingerprinting and in most cases only takes a week or so to receive your LTCH.

Could be because Indiana doesn't have a concealed carry permit. :dunno:

Sorry, to be 'that guy', but folks around here call it what it's labelled, "License To Carry Handgun". The reason is that Indiana makes no distinction between concealed and open carry. Plus, we infer permission with the word permit and Indiana is a 'shall issue' state where we have rights enumerated in the Indiana Constitution.

I don't know what is so hard to understand about my dilemma, or how this became my fault. I did my research beforehand about what was needed and what needed to happen. I was faced by the ignorance of people at L-1 and at the state office whose job is it to process these requests, and things did not proceed as I read they would, resulting in my confusion. This is not my job to do these requests. I am not ignorant of the process, I am unfamiliar as this is my first time applying for the LTCH.

CHL is Texas talk. Our friend is from Texas. How do, Texas?:ingo:

Did you get squared away? Do you still have questions that we can address?

Ha, you got me there, last time I did one of these was in the Lone Star State.

I appreciate the help, yes I was able to refer to the PDF document submitted by Blue Eagle and was able to resolve the issue over the phone today. State will contact me and request payment next week. Thanks for your help though (and to all those who gave helpful answers), I was surprised to find some of the reproachful responses from some users replying back to my question, but what can you do.

Not at all. My original comment about what you guys call it here was more taking light of all the different terminology used across the country to designate carrying a firearm on your person. I did have a long day at work and accidentally called it a CHL/Concealed Carry Permit (from Texas and just got done with my process there before I moved here). Interesting to learn about the reasoning behind the nomenclature though, thank you for sharing.

My comment about what you guys call it here (CHL vs. LTCH) was making light of the multitude of different ways of designating the carrying of a firearm on your person across the country. I did my research before hand, hence how I knew where to go with my checks all in order. You are wrong to say I was ignorant. Ignorant are the people whose job it is at L-1 Identity Solutions and the State Firearms Division to process these requests every day yet still couldn't get me what I needed, hence why I came to INGO to ask for help from people more knowledgeable of the process.

good to hear you got it sorted out....now the wait begins. Also when you get your LTCH you might want to make copies and then laminate it. Saves on paperwork later if you lose or destroy the original
