So i'm pretty set on getting the CZ 75B which'll probably run me about $700 when all is said and done (stainless steel). This is a pretty reasonable amount of money to me at this point in my life (student waiting to get into med school heh).

So it got me to thinking...would it be better to get something cheaper ("worse?") first, then moving on up?

Thanks for any advice, you guys are great! :rockwoot:

I liken guns to guitars. Price tag is not nearly as relevant as reliability and well you handle it. I have several expensive handguns, but I like the Glock 19 in my hand the best.

Good to know. I actually chose this over a Sig P226 because it was cheaper. Everything about guns is expensive, its amazing. I wish i got into this hobby before the prices went crazy.

I saw a bunch of guns at the gun show that were like...$160 (.40, 9mm, .45, .22, etc) with the brand name "hi point" or something like that. Wonder how that compares to something more expensive.

Get what you wish, unless you find a great deal on a used gun on a private sale, other wise you have to spend twice ;-).

The CZ is a good choice for nearly everything except formal target shooting and hunting large game. Once you get the CZ a Cadet or the 22LR adapter would be a GREAT idea in time.

All that said it would be best to actually shoot a few options first and double check what you wish the gun for. If you will be carrying the gun, then will it fit how you carry (i.e. the best gun in the world back home in the safe is of no real help).

    Regards
    John

P.S. Would stay away from the really low end guns if at all possible and if at that price point get a highly used wheel gun etc. I am guessing it was hi point not hi power, which was the last design by John Browning and a great gun.

Buy the gun for the purpose you want if for.

If its a carry gun that is going to get used and show wear but used to protect your life buy the gun you want. I have bought inexpensive guns and they have turned out to be the most fun to shoot. Take for instance the RIA 1911 Tactical, turns out I enjoy shooting it more than the expensive 1911's. But after all these years and all the guns I still have my Glock 22 for carry.

Those were probably Hi Point pistols you saw for that cheap. IMO its best to save up longer and stay away from them. Check out the Glocks and S&W M&P lines, awesome guns for the value they deliver. :twocents:

I think you are making reference to Hi Point. They have their following, just as Taurus does. But many people hate them.

I want a CZ myself, and don't think you could go wrong with one. However, there are many fine guns in the $400 price range, mainly M&P (no other gun seems to match its quality at this price range). If you buy a CZ, you'll almost certainly end up buying a striker fired gun like the M&P next anyways, so you could just buy the M&P first, and get the CZ later. Either way you win IMO.

Never settle, it just costs more down the line.

There is a lot of truth in that statement.

I've had to learn it the hard way - buying an alternative option that I *thought* would be as good as what I really wanted due to price points. I have ALWAYS later regretted it, sold the gun at a loss, and then bought what I should have bought in the first place. (same scenario at least 4-5 times).

Buy the CZ now, you won't regret it. I have 2 Pre Bs and a P07, as well as some other nice pistols that you are welcome to try out sometime. Just bring some ammo. :yesway:

If you're looking for the best gun for the money, it's hard to beat the Sig SP2022. They are easily the most under rated gun on the market. You get a smooth Sig trigger, less weight because of the polymer frame, ad "to hell and back" reliability to steal Sig's own words. I love mine and it's a dream to shoot. I sold my first one because I thought I would find something more expensive that was better. It turns out I wasted a lot of money and time just to end up where I started. You can buy them in stores for around 400-425, but I saw them yesterday on palmetto state's website for $350 plus free shipping. All you would have to do is pay a transfer at your local ffl. If you're in Indy I would be glad to let you yes drive mine.

If it's what you want, and you are not stealing food off your family's table then buy it. Why settle, when you know what you want. You will always be comparing what you bought to the thought of the CZ, and it will never compare.

People were telling me to buy a cheap AR and upgrade after that but I knew what I wanted and went out and bought it, as long as it makes you happy thats all that matters.

You have chosen a fantastic gun. I think if you purchase it you will have it for a very long time. I roam around the Interwebz reading reviews, etc. I have yet to run across anyone who regrets the purchase of a 75B. I considered one for almost a year. I bought several other lower priced guns in the interum. I regret waiting on the CZ. Now that I have one I doubt seriously I will ever part with it. Best 9mm I have ever shot.

Thanks for all the info and offers to test their guns out, you guys have gotta be the nicest forum I've been to! I think I'll just go for it, then. I tried other guns out that had more comfortable grips at the gun show but those were either way more expensive or not even 9mm (what I'm looking for) or not as good according to reviews.

Sig p226 seems really nice too, but that's too expensive and I've heard the newer ones (made in essex i think?) aren't as well made as the ones made in Germany.

No reason not to go with the CZ. Get it and keep it forever.

If you want a good gun thats fairly cheap but still reliable Ill second the Sig SP2022 and also add the Ruger P95 to the list.

The Ruger can be had in black for ~400 and Stainless for ~450.

    I own 4 Sigs. A P220, a P226, a P229 and a P228

My P220 and my P228 were made in germany

The 226 and the 229 made in USA.

I can tell you there is little to no difference between them except caliber. All have top notch fit/finish have been 100% reliable a couple ( 220 and 229) well into the 1-2.5k rnds mark with zero faliures with any kind of ammo.

That being said. Get the CZ and like I said keep it forever. It will be a great gun to teach your grand kids with one day and it will most definately preform just as well if not out preform my Sigs.

CZ and Sig are my favorite guns by far. I still regret selling my 75B.

I didn't see what you intended the CZ 75B to be used for but if it's for EDC, it's going to be heavier to carry. I had one that was brushed nickel and loved it but it was just too nice (and heavy) to carry everyday. If it's going to be the only gun you'll ever have though, then I wouldn't hesitate to spend the money.
