    Whats up INGOers,

I was scrolling through threads today and saw a question about paracord and why we wrap it around our knives. I thought this could be a really cool thread both for individuals to show off their work and educational for others to get ideas for braids, knots, patterns, etc... It would make a good sticky.

When I got my Becker BK11CSM I got introduced to the P cord. I had to turn to youtube which was at the time in my oppinion very limited on information and basic instruction.

I have since wrapped everything from bi pods to a skeleton stock on my MAK90. I can wrap tight and tie a knot but still no clue on various braids and such.

Anyway since I asked for pics

I was going to say, those "survival" bracelets, usually have around 100 foot or 100 yards of the 550 cord. (Called 550 cause it can supposedly hold 550 pounds) I know thats why some of the braids and what not are used. I usually have some in go bags of mine, cause its great to use in the field, but im too lazy to braid it all up to use later. Does make some pretty nice things though, when done right.

Have you ever try to undo one of those. It is not easy and it take a long time.

100 ft? I need to work on my bracelets then, because I tie mine very tight and only get 10ft out of them. Unwrapped I guess that would translate into 80ft (including the sleeve, without undoing each strand). Even with a fat king cobra knot I'd only be getting 20ft.

I also find that they aren't that hard to take apart... Unless you strip the inside to make the bracelet. If there is no core then the knots wrap tighter, but if the core is there the line is fat enough to get a finger on to undo the knots.

    I wish

    I'm liking that si
ngle point sling. Is that one, two, or four strands?

««« DISCLAIMER »»» My bad, I had intended to explain that the awesome paracord sling was not of my own creation. I found it on Armslist summer 2011 being sold by a young man using the name "Badger Tactical" if I remember correctly. It seems he was a med student at U of L and got into making the slings. I believe that he was selling them to Orion Arms Corp. and some other ffl dealers by the end of 2011. I traded a brand new Glock combat knife and a couple hundred rounds steel cased 7.62x39 and some nice box\case for it. I believe his asking price was around $50 but I got two from him. It is four strand. He did a black and green for my AR and its clearly two of each color.

Anyway I cant braid jack. Ive got two daughters and never have braided hair let alone a bad ass sling like that. I need to learn how to do a friendship bracelet then move up to tactical slings!

That sling is a king cobra (I think that's what people have been calling it) knot. You just make a length like you would the survival bracelets, then you turn around and do the same knot over the length of the knot you've just done.

Also, are you SURE that it's 4 strands? It looks very much like 2 strands (one strand will loop around the thing it is connecting to twice). Also, the same result can be attained from a single strand, but it requires a ton of accuracy unless you want to cut off a ton of extra cord. The internal knot is so extremely strong that by the time you start the outside knot it won't matter if you're using a second strand; it's just for looks at that point.

I do have to give the guy credit though, the knots on that sling are nice and uniform.

Hmm I guess I said something that makes little sense above. The knot isn't for strength to begin with, I just get a feeling of accomplishment when I make complex knots with a single strand. And neither knot is for looks (Well I mean to most of us, really it is....), but obviously to provide the user with survival tools.

Sorry about the bracelet, I was wrong. Must have been thinking of another design, its closer to 24 foot. I knew a couple guys in the army that would make something using the 100 foot of it then, just cant remember what it was. Here is a link to the WWP survival bracelet.

Aye, plenty of videos. I used a picture tutorial. They aren't as thorough as a video because you have to guess from frame to frame, but I'm used to them because that's how I learned them in the Boy Scout handbook heh.

Just about as creative as I have done with the cord. I just used cord instead of leather on this since I had cord and no leather. Plus the cord loks good on stainless. I got the how to on doing the leather lever wrap online.

In the cool fall and summer it was great but the 1894 lever is rather small and when glove for hunting season were needed the more room the better so off it came. I need a large hunter loop.
