Reminder! You cannot be complacent and keep saying "Obama never done nothing to ban guns". We all know the only reason he didn't do it yet, is because he needs such people's votes in this election. He can serve his base for the last four years if he wins, and a gun ban will probably be a top priority, after the outrage about Aurora.

However, with a few exceptions, congressional Democrats support background checks at gun shows, and bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines like the ones used in Aurora, Colo. Laxer gun laws, they argue, mean more homicides and suicides. They point to Ohio, where according to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the firearm homicide rate now exceeds that of California. The campaign claims Ohio's firearm homicide rate surged after the Buckeye State passed a concealed-carry law allowing many gun owners to obtain a concealed-carry permit.

In response to Obama's debate comments, the National Rifle Association came out with a new ad. It warns, "Obama put two justices on the Supreme Court who threaten our right to self-defense. Defend freedom, defeat Obama."
Justices Antonin Scalia and Anthony Kennedy, who typically land on the pro-Second Amendment side of the fence, are 76. If either is replaced by an anti-gun successor, pro-gun activists fear their rights will erode.

He said he was going to ban them immediately when he got in office in 2008. Obviously, didn't happen. But you are right, that may be something he will want to push IF he wins next week. VOTER BEWARE!

He already stated in the debate that he thinks the AWB needs to be reinstated.

Bill Clinton didn't ban guns until his second term

Check your history, the Clinton "Assault Weapons Ban" went into effect in Sept 1994 and sunset in 2004 (thank God)! He was elected in 1992 & again 1996. He got this passed obviously in his first term.

This passing legislation in 1994 cost the Democrates control of the House & Senate in 1994. The first time in 30 yrs. Republicans had control of both houses.

This is why the Obama hasn't made a move towards gun restricting legislation, in his first term.

Obama has done plenty to regulate firearms and ownership of them these last four years. He just does so by regulation.

If the House remains in GOP, I worry not about an AWB coming from Congress. It's the EO that scares me ****less.

What was banned during that time? I just remember not being able to purchase an AR15 with a bayonet lug.

You dont remember the $25 30rd ar15 mags? It was illegal during the AWB to manufacture hi-cap mags. Hence the LEO marked mags. And the "preban" AR15's were going for a premium.

I had plenty of pre-ban magazines already. :D

Barring a confiscation.... do you have enough mags for a lifetime? Enough to pass onto your kids, grandkids etc..... Remember mags are a consumable item and eventually will need to be replaced.

The next ban will not sunset.... even the Dems learn from their mistakes.

Direct quote from Obama in the Oct. 16th debate:

“My belief is that, (A), we have to enforce the laws we’ve already got, make sure that we’re keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, those who are mentally ill. We’ve done a much better job in terms of background checks, but we’ve got more to do when it comes to enforcement.
“But I also share your belief that weapons that were designed for soldiers in war theaters don’t belong on our streets. And so what I’m trying to do is to get a broader conversation about how do we reduce the violence generally. Part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced. But part of it is also looking at other sources of the violence. Because frankly, in my home town of Chicago, there’s an awful lot of violence and they’re not using AK-47s. They’re using cheap hand guns.”

If re-elected I believe he'll try to pass some sort of weapons ban. Romney was for an assault weapons ban as well before, but then back tracked to make sure he got the pro-gun vote. To be honest, I don't trust Obama more than I could throw him.

Whoever gets elected should certainly make it more difficult for mentally ill to buy guns, but an AWB as well as a high capacity (>10?) ban are outrageous, and these have long been the plans of gun hating liberal Democrats, never conservative Republicans.

Obama would alienate too many independents, if he banned anything in his first term, to get re-elected. Pelosi and the Left have been eager to see him do more. If the Republican controlled congress doesn't allow a new ban, Obama has shown his ability to declare (illegal?) far ranging executive orders.

It is not just the gun banning that I fear though. In fact, that is really the least of my worries. It is the over regulation of our personal, and financial lives in their entirety that scares me. I am a big man, and drink large sodas, and sometimes I smoke, and if they are to the point of banning little things like this, then we are in real trouble already. What is next? Healthcare rationing for sure, but gas limits, food limits, housing size limits?

Why? In a hurry for more Federal gun control? A bigger BATF? More disarmed Americans?

What happens when they label you mentally ill? No slippery slope there.

PTSD? Depression? Anxiety? ADHD? No guns for you!

I don't think we'll see another AWB in the next 4 years regardless of who wins. Its a very different political landscape than in 1994, people are way more worried about the economy, housing, foreign wars, etc and there is little political will to push an AWB. Remember even in '94, when gun control was at the forefront of the political debate in the way the economy is now, only a watered down version with a built in sunset was able to be pushed through a predominately Democratic government. Then the legislature took a beating after passing it, and you can bet they remember that.

There's plenty of reasons to vote against Obama, but even if he gets in I just don't see an AWB being in the agenda. The more likely anti-gun measures from an Obama campaign will be if he gets to appoint another liberal judge to SCOTUS.

What is really scary is he can issue an executive order banning whatever and never have to run by anyone. I would venture to say it is already written and on his desk so win or lose he will sign it. History tends to repeat itself what I see happening in this country is what happened just before WW2 overseas this is truly a scary time. I found this the other day does it look familiar? Nazi Gun Control
This is what we are talking about yet it happened in 1938 by a nice guy called Adolf Hitler. When Hank Williams Jr compared the 2 he was ridiculed. My 16 yr old daughter is concerned that she will never have the right to carry a gun. She can't vote so she is at our mercy. I don't care if you are a Republican or a Democrat you take a oath to uphold the constitution of the United States how can you vote against anything in that document.

By this time Wednesday, we will know our fate.

That's doubtful. Both sides are already gearing up for a debacle that could make the 2000 election look like a walk in the park. I hope it doesn't go down that road again but it very likely could be that close in multiple states.

If it's close, I'm sure there will be legal challenges. If more than one or two states can't change the outcome, I don't think we'll see much of the legal haggling.
