    What I mean is:

In the ER thread, the fellow talks about how lower power rounds dont penetrate enough when hollow-points are used.

I was wondering if anyone staggered rounds in their magazines.
    HP,FMJ,HP,FMJ, etc.

I generally pack a P64 (9mm mak) with hollowpoints and I was wondering if staggering would give the best of both worlds or if its a dumb idea.

I always thought if I had a double barrel derringer, I would have a .45/410 and have a .410 bridshot shell in the first barrel and a .45 in the second.
The idea would be....couldnt miss at close range with the shot, which would maybe stun the perp for a second while I could take aim with the second round.
Sounds good, but probally wouldnt work in the adrenalin fueled situation.

i have a Taurus Millenium Pro PT111 gen 3 with 2-10 round magazines and i load mine with 4 FMJ, 2 Hornady Critical Duty HP, and then 4 more FMJ. its all personal preference and opinion, but i feel that you have 4 shots, and if they are still coming, they get 2 bigger holes in them, and then 4 more just in case.

I run a single kind of ammo in any one gun. The idea of staggering rounds could mess with the point of aim. For me, I want each and every round to act the same so the only thing I have to deal with is putting the sights on the target and knowing what's behind the target.

FMJ offers precious little for stopping an attacker. The likelihood of zipping a nice, clean, inefective little hole through them and smacking something you didn't intend to shoot on the other side is high. Lots of thugs in this country still sucking oxygen because they were shot with FMJ.

While the theory is rather sound. I consider high end HP the best for civilization (legally and reduction of over penetration, whether its drywall in a house, or the back of the BG's leather jacket) In a SHTF or a war kind of situation where innocents will not be "likely" behind the target I will shoot whatever my gun will eat. Hardball or not.

I only do so in my "farm" revolver. First two cylinders are snake shot, rest are HP. The primary purpose for it is snakes, but just in case I have a trespasser issue I can rotate the cylinder to adjust to the new threat.

    Nope.

For consistency sake: Only one type of ammo in a mag at a time.

With good quality modern defensive ammo - one need not fiddle about or over think things.

I do. The first two rounds in every magazine are ball ammunition, and the rest are blue Glaser rounds. This is in case I have to shoot through something solid (window, door, wood, etc.) before acquiring my target.

In my service rifle, my combat load is an alternating pattern of three green tips, followed by one tracer. Additionally, the first three rounds in every magazine are tracers.

What I do is put one of every type that I can find in the mag and when I get have to shoot I dump the mag. Later I ask the hospital which round was the most deadliest.

Why would you not want to just give them the bigger holes first? Fmj bullets will go right through and possibly hit something you did mot intend to destroy.

I cannot really say why, but I saw it happen in person. A guy had staggered rounds and his 9mm kept jamming up. We sorted the ammo, and the pistol didn't jam on either brand. Admittedly, both brands were off brand cheapies. Maybe the hollowpoints we weak and slightly short stroked the slide?

In my EDC pistols, just HPs.

HD shotgun is 00Buck, Slug, 00Buck, Slug, 00Buck.

AR mags are loaded as follows... I only load 28 rounds in my mags.
Rounds 1 & 2 are standard rounds, 3-5 are tracers, 6-12 standard, 13-15 tracers, 17-23 standard, 24-26 tracer, and last 2 are standard.

Why do you do ar mags like that?

    That is a good reason.

My grandfather is a 1911 fan he runs 1 HP in the chamber and the rest FMJ. Why? because he has had too many hallow point jam. I do tease him if he would use a Glock he could have all hallow points but he replies with but then i couldn't hit anything so i just let it go.

Besides the 28 rounds which i understand for reloading on a closed bolt. Do you really expect to remember which cycle you are on?

    Also:

You'll be hard pressed to find any professional LEO who does this with their duty weapon.

Just not a good idea from a consistency standpoint.
