If there were ever a topic that screams backwoods, country bumpkin Hoosiers, it is DST. The benefits of said topic are obvious to all but those who are too damn stupid to comprehend. Sadly, amongst we Hoosiers, that's a significant percentage of the herd.....

DST is kept to boost commercial activity - more afterwork hours of daylight for folks to go out and spend money. When I first moved to Indiana I really enjoyed not having DST, except that people in other states who changed their clocks said they couldn't figure out what time we were on. I would like to see us pick a time, and stay on it year round.

Then tell them to go to bed.

If they only sleep 8 hours they would be up at 4am. If they sleep 10 it would be 6am. See what I am getting at.

I haven't had a 4 year old in years. I have no clue when bed time should be.
A lot of people have jobs where they have to be at work early, and therefore must get the kids up early. My nephews are up before 5 am every day... Because their mom has to be at the hospital for work by 6:00.

And the disadvantages are obvious to all but those snooty, arrogant ***holes in the cities that think they know what is best for us.

See what I did there? Your argument is #1 rude, #2 very telling of your character, and #3 has no real facts to back it up... I suggest you tread lightly with the way you word things... not every person that dislikes DST is a "country bumpkin Hoosier that is too damn stupid to comprehend the benefits" of something so ridiculous. Not every person that lives in a rural area is a "country bumpkin Hoosier that is too damn stupid to comprehend the benefits"; many of us are well educated from some of the top educational facilities in the nation and quite possibly make more money at our jobs out in "backwoods" of IN than you can dream about. Many of us are hampered day-in and day-out by the ridiculousness of daylight savings time.

FWIW, I hate DST, but I really don't care too much about it being light in the mornings because I leave for work at 5:30 anyways. I find it really hard to go to bed at 9pm when the sun is still shining brightly outside and the neighbor is mowing his lawn...

Need another petition to move Indiana from Eastern to Central time zone.

That's the petition I'd sign. We used to be in the Central Time Zone years ago (before we went on "frozen" time) and I don't think that our position on the globe has shifted since then.

Well, la-dee-dah la-dee-dah. As brilliant as you profess to be, you must be some relation to the Annointed One at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

I grew up with DST so it doesn't really make any difference to me. I'd just as soon not have to deal with changing the clocks twice a year, though. That said, it was even more of a pain trying to do business with states that do have DST. If we're going to have it, everyone should use it. "Indiana time" causes WAY too many problems. I'd happily vote to get rid of DST, but only if it's nationwide.

Agreed. I traveled from E'ville to Indy for years. I thought it was bad having half of the year on different time zone, then they made it all year long and realized how good I had it.

Given the positive effect it has upon commerce in Indiana, the crybaby factor of having to change one's clocks a couple times a year really isn't of consequence.

If you don't want to be inconvenienced, simply don't change the time on your clocks, and allow everyone else to live in the real world. Problem solved.

I love DST. If you lived on the equator where you get 12 hours of daylight year round, it wouldn't make sense. But for crying out loud, what is more natural than varying our schedule to match the sun? If we as a society plan our lives by the clock, then lets coordinate our clocks to the changing seasons. It's mind boggling that some people get upset about this.

I like it during the summer. It gives me extra daylight after I get home from work. Changing in the fall sucks, I drive to work in the dark and drive home in the dark.

Prior to changing to DST, Indiana businesses have lost an incalculable number of hours of productive time and revenue with out-of-state businesses, simply because the time quirks are just too confusing to keep track.

Actually, the contrary is true. The closer you are to the equator, the more value DST has. This is because there's less daylight hours to work with in the summer on the equator than locations farther away.

Why does Alaska have DST? There's no need from a daylight perspective. Now if they could save that daylight for winter...

I'd argue any positive effect comes the perception that we are no longer troglodytes.*

Actually, Ted, I think you recent post all but admits that DST is a shell game and the any lost IN revenue in the past comes from time differences, not shift in daylight hours.

    Native Americans have a saying.

"Only the White man can cut the bottom off a blanket.
    Sew it on the top.
And think he's made a longer blanket."
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^I repeat.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
    :)

This is funny, and I smile when I read it, and it completely makes the point FOR DST. Blankets should be moved down when our feet feet get cold! If you are too stubborn to adjust a clock when the seasons change OR a blanket when you are cold, I just don't know what to say.

Nope, you've got it completely backwards. When the sun comes up at 6am in December and in June, there is no reason to adjust your clock, other than the fact that its handy to be on the same schedule as the rest of the world.
