I've been pretty stressed out lately and just about anything makes me mad anymore. What can I do to become more peaceful or at least much more tolerable of people? Anything I find online is usually a website that "sells" a book I have to buy about the subject. So I come to you INGO to help me out. Dad sugested I see a doctor about it but I really don't need a doctor to write down how I'm an angry person and my rights go down the drain because of it.

accept the fact that most are morons and dumb yourself down.

    shut off half your brain.

smoke dope, or drink a lot. beware both of these make you really un-motivated.

    **** everything in sight.

entirely close yourself off to the outside world. its peaceful inside your own mind.

dispose of ego, be who you really are, and enjoy the tiny little moments this life affords you.

i know it sounds like i'm being a knob but i've handled life in every single one of these ways. my favorite was #4 and 6, but the last was probably the most constructive.

Everybody goes through that kind of thing. I agree about the not wanting to see a dr about it. I do not think med's are always the best option. Maybe you just need a little time to sit in a quite room and reflect on what it is that makes you mad and a better way to deal with it. When I was younger I had a really quick temper myself. As I got older I settled down. Part of being a young man.

Exercise and eat right. Junk food and a sedentary lifestyle are stress contributors.

I do sit around and think about why I am so stressed...quite a bit actually. Like most of my nights a lot. Theres so many things I literally start to ramble on in my own mind and then I get mad about that too.

See above post. I sit alone at my workbench and think a lot.

I've cut back a lot on junk food but can't find too much motivation to work out. What kinds of motivators do you use? How do you exercise?

I tell ya what worked for me, I drive a truck all day, most days all over indy. People really do some stupid things with a car, which really used to **** me off, I mean like I want to run your ass over mad! I knew I needed to settle Down a little, so I slowed down, let them in front of me, and just chuckled to myself when they tailgate me, and smile and wave when they tell me I'm number 1.

Try to slow down, remember, people generally don't think about how there actions will affect someone else, but don't let them control you by making you mad, it only ruins your day and they don't even know your mad. Another thing, when people do something that makes you mad, tell them, calmly and reasonably, you will be amazed how explaining the issue to a person will make it better.

Try to relax and remember, you have to control your life, don't let others stupidity control you! Is your source of stress professional or personal? If its professional try to talk to your boss about how your only 1 man, personal, I can't really help with that, but talking about it with a trusted friend usually helps. Be open with your feelings, don't try to hold it in, it only hurts you.

Do you ever have time by yourself, with just your own thoughts and no distractions? There were a few times while in the desert it occurred to me that I almost never have this opportunity here at home. I learned a lot about myself then. I also learned in those times that things I "thought" we're important didn't really matter at all.
Work on today and let tomorrow worry about itself.

That's what I meant, yes. I'm only 17 but there are literally tons of firearms I'd love to be acquainted with.

I see. With all the doctors asking about guns and what not it definitely makes a person think twice about going. I don't know if anti-depressants would deem you unfit to own a firearm.

Set small, realistic goals. Develop an exercise plan to meet those goals. Find a workout partner that will help to motivate you. Remember that "work out" doesn't have to mean going to the gym. Maybe you just go for a 30 minute walk a few days per week, or play some basketball or something.

That's part of it. And if you have time to sit and think for hours, that's another part. Much as I love it, INGO is another. Lots of negativity 'round these parts.

You can't change the first one, but you can adjust the other two.

I wouldn't recommend HC's recommendations. Temporary at best. They aren't solutions, just convenient ways to ignore the problem.

I spend as much time as possible alone. However if I get interupted sitting and loving the peace I'll be about 2x more angry than I usually am.

Now let me be clear I do not come to blows because I know as a gun owner I have to be on my best behavior around everyone but I let it bottle up all day. When I get home or even at school sometimes something will tip me over that point and I'll literally exploded with anger. No one gets hurt but they get chewed out good. Sometimes the anger bottles up for weeks and I'm unpleasant to everyone until it simmers out by itself. I hate that.

I wish I could but I'm not allowed to leave the house. If I'm not at school I'm at home. Very rarely am I anywhere else. All because my dad and stepmom think I'll get hit by a car or something rediculous. Even then I wouldn't do anything too dumb.

A big part of it is the fact you are the age you are. As the Bible says, tribulation works patience, and this effect takes a number of years to set in. In the mean time, I recommend maximizing your time in peaceful surroundings. A wooded park would be a really good bet--somewhere you can camp a bench for a few hours in peace and ponder imponderables as you let the world go by, or in other words no siblings, no stepmother, no dad who lets stepmother go unchecked, no irritating neighbors, and none of the pinheads from school. Take in some reading while you do it. Netsecurity gave you a good starting point. If I had the time on my hands of an average teenager, I would probably also read some of Jeff Cooper's books. That man really had a grip on life. I miss reading his monthly columns (OK, that was before your time). Another thought is that you could pick up the two Atlas Shrugged movies. I have enjoyed them a lot, especially given the amount of truth they address regarding the prevailing society. I am about to start on the book, although it is thick enough to use as a blunt impact weapon. The above-mentioned materials should keep you busy for a while!

At the end of the day, although I could skip the beer, the line from the song has a lot of merit, God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy (even though you really should limit yourself to root beer at the risk of introducing far greater stress into your life). Seriously, you have the added stress factor of being a young man who thinks and has a reasonable understanding of life, especially for your age. You are surrounded by morons who would five men with pry bars to get their heads out from up their rear ends, and it doesn't really get any better-you will just get better at managing it over time.

You have some good ideas about life, and I have confidence that you will get plenty of mileage from them--you just have to be patient, even though it can be difficult. Unfortunately, the morons are a recurring road hazard in life. In the end, keep thinking clearly and you will win.
