Well my national guard unit was told we could no longer keep magazines. Our higher ups have made the choice to take all the subordinate units magazines and issue them out as a AS NEED BASIS. Usually with the magazines the unit will issue them out on hand receipts to make the soldier responsible. Our high ups now do not eventrust their subordinate units to do this.
What a way to keep the units readiness up.Our BN HQs are more than an hour away from the company's. I know the BN said they are worried about stealing but that’s what hand receipts are for.

Am I reading this right? They're limiting Mags to our Military or National Guard? Please expound.

Is that such a big deal? I don't see any real issues with this.
It is when when there are policys are already in place to keep soldiers liable for their equipment. Its just I guess the annoying fact that we will have to travel an hour or more to draw our magazines from the battalion. When we train its train as we fight even carrying our 7 empty magazines. After training we do equipment layouts to make sure everybody has everything, to help instill accountability.

And HOW exactly are you going to fight with EMPTY magazines? If you truely mean what you said, you would carry 7 fully loaded magazines. Do you carry the equivalent of 350 rounds of ammo to compensate for the empty mags? If you don't, then it doesn't make a hill of beans difference if your mag pouches are empty or if they are holding empty magazines.

It goes to show the gov dosent even trust its own people. To take away their equipment. How do they expect them to fight the enemy with no spare mags and ammo. Oh wait we are their enemy.

    Afghanistan when I can.
Yeah, I am pretty sure this is for TRAINING. Everytime a unit deploys, the soldiers get 7 or more brand new magazines. This is specifically talking about TRAINING, where I am sure the higher up command is worried about the soldiers selling STATE property and then saying they lost it and getting new ones. Since they are a non-DX-able item (unaccounted for) they just get new ones. This is how it was explained to me by a friend in the National Guard who is an armorer.

It was that way on active duty. You didn't keep your magazines while in garrison, the battalion armory did. If you wanted to keep empty magazines in your mag pouches to they didn't collapse and curl over, you bought your own.

I fail to see the issue.

    Um, I always had magazines

The entire time I was on active duty (more than 15 years) I had at least 6 magazines issued to me. I don't know about the other services but the Marine Corps always issues magazines at check-in to a new unit, at least they did.

Sorry to hear that Cavman. They never did seem to bright down there at Sqdrn HQ's to me anyway. It is a little late considering the mag ban isn't going anywhere now. I'm sure there is something behind it. Good luck to you and the rest of the guys. Still not regretting getting out!! :patriot:
