Riding motorcycles with a group into OH today, I only have a IN LTCH :(

I don't want to stop the whole group, who don't know I CC, and unholster, unload mag, and then place firearm and mags in opposite lockable saddlebags...which I assume is legal by what I have read. I need to even take ammo out of the mag, correct?

Anyway, trying to decide taking it and storing from the start that way, or just leave behind...

Note to self: get a UT or FL soon!

I haven't heard of the taking the ammo out of the mag. I could be wrong. But really it comes down to the worst case scenario. What happens if you really need it? Is it really worth the chance of dying because you didn't have a silly pink card for a neighboring state

I'm thinking the law about the ammo out of the mag has changed, but I'll need to research it to dbl check...

    handgunlaw.us / Ohio

Sec. 2923.16. (K) (This law does not take effect until 3/27/13)
(5)(a) "Unloaded" means with respect to a firearm other than a firearm described in division (K)(6) of this
section, that no ammunition is in the firearm in question, no magazine or speed loader containing
ammunition is inserted into the firearm in question and one of the following applies:
    (i) There is no ammunition in a magazine or speed loader that is in the vehicle in question and that
may be used with the firearm in question.
(ii) Any magazine or speed loader that contains ammunition and that may be used with the firearm in
question is stored in a compartment within the vehicle in question that cannot be accessed without
leaving the vehicle or is stored in a container that provides complete and separate enclosure.

Yeah, let's set a good example by encouraging others to break the law:n00b:, just what the antis look for, way to go.:noway:
+1 I would just leave it at home, as I always do with the exception of one time. Which, we went on a trip to different gun stores, and ended up in Ohio. :dunno: I took out my mag put it under my seat and locked the gun in the glove compartment which was the best I could do to separate them from each other.
I would have had to stop my truck, shut it off, take out the key to unlock the box, and get out to get the mag out from under the seat. I said a little pray and tried to not get pulled over.
As for the long run I would get a permit from a state that allows CC in Ohio, and be covered no matter what.

This..^..people who do this and get caught will be in here crying about it after words.

Take it with you, just abide by the transportation laws.
So when you end up back in Indiana you have the rest of your ride with it on your side where it should be.

I know it won't do you any good now, but I fixed this problem years ago by obtaining a Florida Firearm License. Utah will also work.

Florida is easy to get, I live real close to Ohio and that's what I did. Just google it and get the process started.

Commen sense should tell you this.
If you don't get it you aint got it.:patriot:

Common sense should tell you that you will loose your rights to own and carry any firearms and rot in an Ohio prison if caught.

Your chance of being in an accident or having your car searched by police are greater than needing your gun to defend your life.

If you feel like taking these chances go right ahead and maybe I will read about how you got arrested. It's your life to screw up but don't encourage others to become a felon.

On a side note, I would not be saying on a public fourm that you have or are willing to break the law, but that's just me. Good luck.

I would either continue on and keep my mouth shut or just not go to OH. Pretty simple I just don't go places that will not let me be armed especially for pleasure. I just would not have an enjoyable time. I would stay home and go to the range instead. Like others have said get the FL or UT permit so next time you will be prepared to travel to an unfriendly gun state.

Let's look at probabilities. How many times in your lifetime have you used a gun for personal protection - actually drawn and fired? Now how many times have you been in a routine traffic stop?

So yeah, go ahead and risk your right to continue to carry a firearm for the rest of your life on the miniscule chance that you might need it on that ride. OR - you could just choose to not ride in Ohio.

OR, and this is just me being all whacky and crazy, but he could just comply with the law and get a Florida license.

    It's a lot cheaper than a lawyer . . . and far more portable too.:D

As the OP indicated the ride is TODAY, I assumed he is looking for immediate advice, not something that will take weeks/months to obtain. For a long-term solution, yours seems viable.
