I have seen a few threads about exploding targets lately and it got me thinking. I purchased 20lbs of Tannerite many years ago for less than half of what they are charging now days. And I am almost out. It also seems that many new companies have entered the exploding target market.

It is really fun with large pill bottles. Still gives a good boom, is more challenging to hit at 100 yards, and does not scare the crap out of my fathers neighbors (since I use his property). :D

What alternatives have my fellow INGO'ers found and at what pricing? I would prefer to keep it to $3.00lb or less.

I have heard that mentioned on here before. I also recall someone on the forum selling the H2. Does anyone recall who that is?

Are there any other brands out there that would be a better value compared to Tannerite?

I always got my binary at knob creek right at 3$ a pound..... And a tracer won't light a propane tank until the has dispersed

I have had mixed results with Shock wave. Some went off, others did not. The H20 is way better for the money and from my experience 1 pound of H20 looked like it made as big of a boom as 4lbs of shock wave. A cheap exploding target would be full cans of beer. You can get a 30 pack for less than 20$, shake them up and shoot them with different caliber rifles. A full beer off a fence post shot with a 22-250 is a awesome sight to see.

If you can get ammonium nitrate, you can easily make your own exploding targets.

I am sure I am not allowed to say how they are made/mixed so I won't but it isn't hard to do.
The problem these days is getting AN as it is now controlled due to the BATFE worries over terrorists making ANFO devices.
A 50# bag of AN is about $30 and the other stuff needed will cost you another $30 at most (more like $15).
you will wind up with fifty pounds of exploding targets for $60 bucks or that is $1.20/pound (or maybe $0.90/pound if you buy from the right places).

I've used Shockwave. I've seen them shot at 40 yards with a 9mm and not go off, but that's not even close to a high powered rifle either. In Ft. Wayne, the new ZX Guns sells the 4# jugs of showave for $19 and change. I've not seen or used a 4# yet, but it's not a bad use of a $20 bill while it's still legal to own.

I second the soda idea. Definitely no drinking the beer when shooting, especially not when working with explosives. I wouldn't even have an empty beer can within a thousand yards of me, as it could be considered probable cause for LEO to think I had been drinking, or violate "open container" laws or some such thing. The bottom line is that it just looks bad.

I couldn't find AN to make my own, even a farmer I know said he hasn't been able to get it in quite a while. I was able to buy 50lb of exploding target for $3.60 per pound from some place called Last Man Standing https://www.lastmanstandingtargets.com/

A couple of us divided it up, as it was cheaper to buy in bulk rather than individual orders. Now I wish I had kept all of it :) I don't know if their prices have gone up or not, but at the time, I think that was one of the cheapest places. And I can attest that it has detonated very well in various sizes as long as you follow the directions.

Dont shoot beer.. What is wrong with you? lol

I suppose talking about AN is not a good idea. It will scare people, and they will label you a terrorist, or a former member of the military.. lol
