Gander here in Evansville usually has really high prices. You can eek out a deal every once in a while. I've heard they don't do well on trade ins.

I've found the guys at the Greenwood Gander Mount. to be friendly enough, but you're never going to get good trade-in value at a bulk retailer.

About the most Gander will give is 40% of Blue Book price and most dealers will give about 60% ,but when you trade a firearm it is like trading a car you are going to loose.

That is usually trade in numbers too, not just outright sales to gunstores! Going to a store and expecting them to give you your money back (essentially what I have heard from OTHER, not your, conversations) is a good stretch. Despite what Daddy used to say, the gunstore ISNT the ol' Hardware Store. Hell, the ol' Hardware Store wasnt even the ol' Hardware Store. Cash is king and gunstores ARE out to make money. They have overhead and workers to pay. The image of being your friend is so they MAKE more money than just the sale (one would go back there due to the "good" service). Gunstores are good folks, may give good deals, but they arent friends with you, they are friends with the pocketbook. After a white, you may be friends, but to most of the folks coming in the door, they are just that, folks coming in the door.

The big box stores arent going to be the best as they are just like Don's here in Indy: They cater to the stupid and uninformed. Their ammo pricing is high, their guns are high, their used guns are in a mish mash of conditions and service is spotty. They cut corners in not only store service but also the quality and integrity of the workers. Going in and expecting them to give you a good deal is a HUGE stretch. But they sucker enough people who dont do their due dilligence to make an enormous profit.

The cure: Sell your guns, FTF, to an individual or online. Give them a good deal. Hell, 80% of value (a HELL of a lot better than one would get at even the best store) is still a great deal to someone else and gets you your money for that next new purchase! :) SO many folks are hitting hard times right now, LOTS of them are flocking to their local stores to unload something they bought that they maybe should have not bought (saved the money instead). They get pissed when the store wont make a trade (too many used guns right now from a flood of folks doing the same thing) or cant pay them even close to what the gun is worth even in the worst of times. In those cases, please see paragraph one: They are there to make money, the rent and bills dont magically disappear because they are good ol boys. That currency is no longer bankable.

    My two cents, rant off

Second note: The economy is bad, expecting to get full value for a gun nowadays (despite the fear and panic that has SUBSIDED!!! HINT HINT AR SELLERS!) is a pipe dream. Seems everyones stuff is gold, but in reality is crap. I have been seeing alot of stuff being sold at new prices but is garbage in condition. Want to sell a gun quick nowadays? Dont expect a huge return..

    Rant off dang it!

I have NEVER traded in a gun but I frequently put guns 'on consignment' at a local shop. Consignment sales are great for dealers since they don't have any investment in the gun they are willing to give a much better price but you have to wait for your cash until he sells the gun. Dealers who do a lot of Gun Shows are some of the best outlets for consignment sales (at least that is my experirnce. . . YMMV )

I was looking for a used 1100 last year. 20 gauge in good condition. I watched the ads here for a month or so but didn't see any. I know that isn't a very long time period but I would think it would be worth the wait unless the cash was needed quickly.

My advice would be to list here for xx number of days. No sale? Then bite the bullet and go for the trade in . Shoot, try a pawn shop if you need the money and want a shot at getting your gun back.m Ask some buddies if they would front you $$ and use the gun as collateral.

Gander is quick but not thye best deal out there.
