I was hoping to get some suggestions on a .45 caliber full size pistol. I was thinking about getting a 1911, something along the lines of a Springfield TRP, I really like the features of this gun, but for the money I feel like I could I get a whole lot more.

I am also considering an XDm Competition in the 5.25" barrel, bi-tone which is almost half the price of a TRP...

Will you guys with experience with full size .45's make some suggestions? And maybe a few good reasons why the pistol you are suggesting. I am really open to anything at this point, steel or plastic, doesn't really matter....I just want to know everything that is out there and what people are having a good experience with.

    Thanks!

Yep see the above thread. But while I'm here I'll go ahead and recommend the sigs. For the price point you will get a lot of standard upgrades that you pay A LOT extra for with other brands.

My favorite .45 ACP is the Glock 21. 13-round mags and a very soft-shooting gun. Lots of rounds through mine and it is insanely reliable, very fast shooting and and very accurate.

If the Glock isn't your thing the Smith & Wesson M&P45 is another great polymer .45 worth looking at.

CZ97b vote here. 10+1 and sweet shooter. If you can find one.

SAR K2 is 14+1 capacity and is on my list (still). Hear great things on them and see them whenever I don't have extra cash (most always lately).

EAA Tanfoglio is an econo piece of good quality and can sometimes be found with a 22lr conversion combo. Or spend more on a Tanfoglio Witness of the upper tiers and get an even better shooting model.

Ive owned a Glock 21 before. Great gun but I prefer all metal guns. I currently carry a 1911 or a CZ 97B. Theres just something about the 1911 platform that im in love with. I just got the CZ 97B. Very impressed with it. Going to send it to CGW soon for some trigger work.

I'm just going to list decent possibilities, no particular order.

FN FNX45- has 15+1 capacity standard
Glock 21- great shooter and reliable. 13+1
    Glock 30s- fairly concealable 10+1
Sig P220 or P227- Sig reliability in 8+1 or 10+1/14+1
    Ruger SR45- 10+1
    XDm45- 13+1
    Ruger SR1911- 8+1
Desert Eagle 1911 G or C- 8+1 (I have one and love it. Several thousand down range and it eats everything. I use Chip mags for it.)
CZ97b- 10+1 CZs are nice guns, I have two myself.

Do some research on these and you'll find something you like. Shoot before you buy if possible.

I have a few of these that I like. I have a 1911 (Ithaca) and a 1911A1 (Springfield Armory) as well as two Rugers, a P345 that I like much better than my 1911's and a Ruger SR45 that I only recently purchased. I tend to carry the two Rugers a lot more than the other two. Now that I a comfortable with the SR45 I carry that but I carried the P345 for many years before they were released. The Ruger P345 is an 8+1 capacity pistol and the SR45 carries 10+1 45 ACP rounds.

After owning several, including the SR1911, Springfield Range Officer, S&W "E" 1911Sc, all 3 now sold, my opinion:
    HK45 (my favorite full size .45). 10+1
Sig P227 (if not for my HK45, the Sig would be #1, & not all that far behind my HK).

For me, my hands, etc., those 2 are awesome. Both have been 100% FMJ & HP, great firearms.

The M&P .45 is ok, I probably would've rated better in the beginning, as I had it before the HK & Sig, but after the HK & Sig, now it's just ok. Has also been 100%.
