Hey everyone, I'm currently waiting on my LTCH and I'm not too sure how easily/comfortably I'll be able to conceal my Walther p99. It's not a very small gun. So I was hoping some of you who do carry regularly could help me compile a list of reliable 9mm guns that I can research and then make a decision on my next purchase. Any and all help or advice is welcome and appreciated. Thanks in advance =)

Ruger makes some good 9mm models, too

Any of these are good CC weapons. Just have to find the right belt and holster to fit your preferences.

Every one has their own recommendations. Just google "best 9mm pistol" and you will a year's worth of research and reading at your fingertips.

This is the short list I would check, but there are dozens of choices out there. To narrow it down, what's your budget??

I would recommend a Walther P99. Nice carry gun and about the same size as a Glock 19 or M&P (which are probably the most popular carry guns on the market right now.) Invest in a good belt & quality holster. I buy my pants one size larger. Personally I like the Comp-Tac MTAC.

Edit: I have carried a P99 with no problems at all.

Thanks for the ideas so far. My budget is between $300-500ish. I'm not ready to buy just yet. Putting a little back from each check to please the wife lol. I like the idea of a thin gun. I do love my p99, a lot! Just not sure I would want to carry it all the time. Plus this gives me an excuse to buy another ;) I liked the look and size of the Ruger Lc9, but not a fan of the long trigger pull or the fact that it won't fire without a mag. Thanks for the suggestions so far and please keep them coming. I'm doing a lot of research on them.

In that price range and in that role take a look at the Ruger SR9c (compact) and the Smith & Wesson Shield.

The high end of that price range will get you a new M&P or Glock. If you buy used, you'll have a bit more money for mags and ammo.

Glock 19 or M&P FS would not be any smaller then the P99. They are about the same width and have 4 inch barrels. Even the Glock 26 and M&P compact have the same thickness. Not being argumentative because I agree that both the Glock 19 and M&P set the standard for carry. I am pointing this out only to illustrate that with a proper belt and holster the P99 can also be carried because it is similar in size and weight. The P99 might even carry easier because it is very curved and will blend in nicely.

When I don't feel like carrying a gun I opt for a J frame. So I would take any advise from me with a "grain of salt"

Ordinarily I'd say the Shield, but if you like the Walther then Archer's advise about a PPS is a good one. IIRC, Indy Trading Post has one in their rental case if you want to try before you buy.

    **Edit**

    Yup, they do.

I thought I remembered shooting one there, but couldn't remember if it was 9mm or .40.

Just bought the M&P Shield which fit's your needs:

    1: $389
    2: Very thin
3: No mag safety (fires without a mag)
    4: No long trigger pull

A little higher than $500 at $540 is the XDS 9mm. I bought one last week and haven't looked back. No manual safety like the shield either. Everyone says that it'll never come on so don't worry about it, but that's not a chance I'm willing to take when mine or my family's life is on the line. I am a lefty, so a right-handed safety was a no go for me.
    Good luck in your search.

Shield is a great gun. I have a full size M&P9 as well and carry either one depending on where I'm going, what I'm wearing etc. You can conceal a full size gun more easily than you'd think, but it doesn't work for me for all situations. It's nice having a smaller option. I'd say go for the Shield or PPS, or an M&P9 compact or something like that.

I've carried and concealed a 8-3/8" S&W Mdl. 29, all the while standing directly in front of a self-professed 'expert' loudly proclaiming that he could immediately spot ANYONE carrying a gun, especially a gun that large. Then, I opened my lightweight jacket, and watched his jaw hit the floor.

With some exception, it's really not what you carry, but HOW you carry it. If you're willing to somewhat modify what you wear and alter how you do some things, you should have zero problem carrying that P99, even on the hottest days.

Of course, if you WANT another 9mm and 'need' the 'justification' for purchasing it, THEN my response is "Oh man, that's WAY too big, you NEED another, smaller 9!"

Jus' tryin' ta help a brotha out...

With the right holster, and clothing choice, concealing the P99 should be fairly easy. I can carry my XD9sc with the full size mag in an IWB Kholster all day long comfortably, and without notice.

A good holster and a good belt are way cheaper than a new gun.
