So much fail going on here. What the heck did the guy think would happen when he's pointing a rifle at kids in the pet supply aisle? Pellet gun or not, that is dangerous behavior that could easily get you shot.

Then you have this gem, from the dead guy's girlfriend.

“I feel like they shot him down like he was not even human," Johnson said. "First of all, they used a rifle. They could have Tazed him, or … just used the handgun, not something so powerful or forceful like he was an animal or something."

No they should not have tazed him. Yes they should have used a rifle. Who do you think was going to volunteer to get up close and personal to taze him?

Air rifles fire real projectiles. They can be lethal.

At first glance that thing looks like a threat to me. Sorry to see the guy get DRT but he was stupid!! And yes a .177 can and will kill you. Or at least as we now know will get you killed. Cops were in the right. They did the right thing and got to go home. this guy on the other hand got some time in the cooler, at the morgue.

Good shoot! One less ****ing idiot in the world.

Some moron pulled this crap about 20 years ago here in Clarksville, barricaded himself in a sleazy motel room with a bb pistol, as soon as he exited the room, he got dead real quick. Cops aint gonna turn and run because you "just have a bb gun".

    Dumbasses.

Wow so little information and so much smug justice! How many MWAG stories have we read about where the caller said the MWAG was pointing it a people, waving it around, etc when the facts proved they didn't? Not saying there wasn't some stupid floating around, on both sides, but maybe I missed the video? I love how they're emphasizing "variable pump air rifle" in an attempt to make it sound dirty!

MWAG call. Drop it when ordered to do so, or lethal consequences may result. As it did in this instance.

It matters not one iota that it was 'only' an air rifle.

The choice, and the responsibility, laid solely with Crawford. He chose... poorly.

I hope they release the video hard to tell. But my guess is stupid women calling 911 got this man killed.

All Officers are trained to make their own case upon arriving any call. The dispatcher merely relays the call and any pertinent info (fighting/arguing someone being injured in the background). What some folks constitute as an emergency sometimes rarely is. What got this suspect killed was that they refused to drop the weapon and airguns can be lethal and at the least cause serious bodily injury. The Officers reasonable perception of someone (or him/her) being subjected to injury that would cause death or serious bodily injury is all that is needed and this idiot put himself in that spot by being stupid in a no stupid zone.

And alot of patrol cars ended up with holes in them as well as best I recall:whistle:......According to a buddy that has been to the Police Acadamy up near Indy that incident is still taught up there as to where NOT to have your officers positioned during such an incident....

If I'm in Meijer (I don't shop at walmart) and I see some fool walking around with something like the photo shows, I'm gonna get my loved ones out of the way and have my weapon drawn while doing that. If said fool pushes the issue, I'd do the same as those cops did. Unless that airgun was in the box, that guy got exactly what he was asking for.

Yeah, :): my ex father in laws car was one that was hit. It was not the most tactically sound incident from the perspective of the PD, but, luckily, only the low life criminal was harmed. Think circle of death/high likelihood of crossfire injuries.

Interestingly enough, not more than several weeks after that incident, the same officer who was credited with the fatal shot, arrested a guy at the SAME sleazy hotel for armed robbery of the hotel office......you guessed it, armed robber used a bb pistol during the robbery.

Guy takes a BB gun out of a box and proceeds to walk around a store pointing it at people. He also acts like he is loading the rifle while walking around the store and pointing it at people.

    BANG, BANG, BANG.

    I don't see a problem with this...
