I have friends that posted an "ice bucket challenge" on Facebook with their 11 month old. They did the whole setup and challenged others, but when they tipped the 5 gallon bucket over the baby, there was only a tiny dribble of water in it. They honestly had me scared for a minute that they were about to be famous idiots.

    My sister-in-law "challenged" me today.

I'm probably not going to do it.

I MAY donate to the American Kidney Society since my dad has a chronic kidney disease.

A guy sent me a link the other day about how much actually goes to research. Very little. Most of it goes to more advertising to raise more money and business costs.

You tube link asked for age verification, but I see nothing wrong with it.

This is why we do not send these outfits checks. So little goes to the cause and several people have jobs. The jobs are collecting/counting and distributing the funds. Well, whats left after salary's and over head.

    We donate directly to Riley's.

I seen that also on FB... so I looked at it on the Charity Navigator.. in 2013 72.4% went to the program.. Not great, but not bad...

 were did you read that from? Is it a credible source or just a rumor on the internet?

Probably from your post #10....which when you read it says only 27% of donations go research. However there are other things it helps with, wouldn't say the rest goes into their pocket though, but the break down is there.

I see... I posted the first link to show that there is a story going around that only 27% of the money is used for the program, I then posted the other two links below it to debunk the myth. I think when the tax returns come in for the 2014 tax year you will find that the 73% which goes to the program in 2013 will go way up for the 2014 year as they have a lot more donations now and the "ice bucket" hype pretty much took off on it's own with little money used by the ALS group.

Anyway.. I think it's great that ALS is getting donations, but I think it's time to start helping other worthy charity's now.
