Has anyone ever recovered their stolen guns?

Was robbed of many items back in March and have not heard one word from the police since, not that I really expected to. Odds are against them and I'm sure they have much more important things to work on.

What happens in the event of an insurance payout? Are you given the option of buying the firearm back from the insurance company?

I have a couple of family heirlooms insured and if they were stolen and recovered even 6 months later I'd like to get them back and give the value of that gun back.

I never received any back. May have never been found either. Had a great old Browning 12 g that belonged to my uncle that I sure would have liked to get back for sentimental reasons.

I had four handguns stolen in 1994. I still get a phone call once a year from the local PD asking to confirm if they are still missing. That keeps them in the system. At this point it would be a miracle if they were recovered. Sucks too cause they were three Colts, a 1911 Officers Enhanced, an Officers Double Eagle and a Government 380 and a S&W 625 5". All stainless.

Had a colt gov. 380 taken out of my truck, 14 years later she came home . She sat in Chicago police station for 7 years before they called fishers police and sent her back and they found me and gave it back, still shoots good after I replaced all the springs

House robbed in 1994; lost a shotgun & a 9mm pistol. Both replaced by insurance. 18 months later the pistol was recovered from a storm drain in Warren township. It was offered to me & I declined it. It was a Taurus PT92.

Had a marlin 60 that my dad bought me in 1971 stolen from my house in 1984. 6 months ago at a gun show a floor trader sold it back to me for $115. It was MY gun! Messed with him a little and told him he was selling stolen property and was going to have him evicted from the show for life! He was very appologetic and told me he did not know it was stolen. No biggy i told him. Just amazed to get it back.

I lost 3 handguns and a rifle after a burglary back in May. Haven't gotten any back yet, but insurance company replaced 3. (Didn't replace the 4th to cover deductible.)

I asked insurance man what would happen if police found them and returned them to me. He said to send back the replacement guns or a check for the value.

Liberty Mutual homeowners was awesome through the whole process btw. Easy and fast replacement. It didn't hurt that I had documented my collection in photos with receipts and serial numbers.

My insurance company refused to cover my guns so it was good that I got them back, but yes you'd have to pay them back.

It does happen. One friend of mine had several stolen in a burglar. About 9 years later an 870 slug gun of his turned up in Kentucky and he got it back. It turned up in a pot farm bust. Another had guns stolen from his house about 3 months before we had a hunting trip planned in Wyoming. He was understandable pissed that the R700 he planned to take was stolen. He bought another to replace it and then got the one he really wanted back a few days before we left. It turned up in a not 10 miles from his house.

I had an Ithaca 37 featherweight 20 gauge stolen out of my jeep in about 1987. I pulled in from hunting, was in my parents house for about 30 minutes, came back out to go to another hunting spot and it was gone. Young and dumb, never even gave leaving all my stuff in the jeep a second thought. I am still waiting on some kind soul to return that beauty to me.

I hope you found a new insurance company or upgraded your policy. Liberty Mutual was great to work with when I had 4 stolen. See my post up thread.

My uncle's house was robbed, and he saw a gun, like one of the rifles taken, at a gun show, and bought it. Checked the serial number months later, and it was the one he had stolen.

File under coincidence: I just got off the phone with the popo for the annual call.
