For those still on the two point sling wagon, I'm not knocking your decision, but how often do you all shoot from behind cover from your weak side? I'm not knocking any decisions here, I'm just saying that if it's your "go-to" or "SHTF" or "home defense" or whatever gun, you may want to try that out with your two point sling.

Isn't this one of the major selling points of the VTAC and VCAS slings? Easy adjustability and shoulder transitions?

Whichever sling you use you must be familiar with it.
I prefer a plain nylon sling for comfort and fast forearm wrap.
My rifle stays in control and out of the way when not needed.

So is it used the opposite way that an AR pistol sling would be?

I've seen videos of people pushing an AR pistol away from their body, using only the sling to keep it steady... not touching their body.

Is the sling with a full sized AR used to pull it closer against your shoulder?

GP, I have a Single-Point sling I no longer use. You are welcome to it. PM me your contact info and I'll drop it in the USPS to you.

Personally, I think this may be a "personal preference" thing.

Yes sir, it is. It also stabilizes your support arm. A US GI sling is quickly adjusted to the perfect length for you in various positions and is a great $15 investment in accuracy.
I'll say it again as the others have... You need a Revere's event to show you exactly how much more accurate you can be with just a sling and some simple techniques. $60 for a weekend of training is ultra cheap, and well worth it. You will be SHOCKED at how much your accuracy improves in 2 days.

I don't know if this was the major selling point of the Vtac sling. I know I bought them because of the pad, and how easy the length of the sling was to adjust. Even with that ease of adjustment, you still have something to adjust compared to a single point that's just ready to run.

Definitely a personal preference kind of thing. Definitely making a bet and playing the cards you're dealt either way. On the one hand, you're shoulders have to live with it, on the other you have a speed advantage with ease of use. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer to the sling dilemma and since I like both methods, I buy the slings that can do both. Apparently now I'll be buying a new padded magpul sling and trying that out. :)

I can understand the long-distance thing... but how does it help with accuracy? Do you utilize the sling in some way to stabilize the gun?

Yes, slings are great for stabilizing. Great for deer hunting, especially if you don't have a gun rail on your stand or a handy branch to rest the gun on. Here's a couple of illustrations.

No worries, much appreciated though! I'll do some research on the topic, probably invest in one that will do either.

That... and mess around with my current sling to see if I can get that hold method down...

I have used an Urban ERT on my patrol rifle and shotgun for years, one of his first generations I think. Maybe since 2006? I generally leave the 2 points as is, meaning that I rarely cinch up the slack as they are designed. I deployed my rifle yesterday as a matter-of-fact and I never adjusted the sling once. I guess I'd be fine with a nice long 2 point even. Don't get too hung up on all bells and whistles. I do like the fact the the Urban ERT's are seatbelt wide, nice and comfy.

This seems like an ideal thread to tag onto, and ask my question.
I'm in the process of outfitting my first keymod rail on an AR platform, and am considering sling and sling attachment options.
In looking at Keymod quick-detachable sling mounts, many brands list both "rotational", and "non-rotational" mounts.
What are the benefits (or negatives) to these choices ? When would one (rotational, or non-rotational) be preferred over the other ?

I have a rotational QD on the rear of the stock and a hook on the front hand guard.

I've been on tracks that have lasted hours through the woods. It's nice to be able to cinch your rifle to your chest and walk back, when requesting agencies release the perimeter, and don't think about taking you back to your car. :(

This is a good question. I've never seen that there's that much difference between a rail, keymod, or m-lok since basically all those allow you to mount your stuff wherever you want them on the setup. In my little brain, if you're not going to use the factory sling attachment point under the front sight post, and most rifles don't even have that anymore anyway you are living in a golden era of options to mount a good sling to your rifle. I've just never really got into the quick detach sling swivels personally. They're all built heavy and tough to outdo one another, but all I need is a little spot for my sling to clamp onto it and I'm done. I like the fixed loop types of sling attachment points on the hand guard of the rifle and a magpul asap plate on the rear of the receiver. The MS3 can go single point into the magpul asap, then if I want to go two point I just disconnect my MS3 from the little loop thing and attach to the handguard.

Sling preferences are about as personal as picking out a pair of shoes, and something else I like about the MS3 that I haven't mentioned yet is that with the little clamps I can get the whole thing off my rifle in a second or two if I want it gone.

The MS3 is one that I've been considering, teddy12b. Thanks for your input. You've given me more to ponder. :)
