I was hoping someone would have some experience with one of the game preserves in Indiana for Pheasant and quail hunting. I had been to Flat Rock in Rushville back in 2011 and it appears that it isn't open any longer.

I want to take my wife's uncle with me for his into to hunting and bird hunting. He has shot trap so he is not new to guns per say.

I see there is a place in Mitchell called Sugar Creek Preserve and a place further south called Lost River. I want a relaxed place that is scenic like Flat Rock was.

    Any suggestions?

My first choice in Indiana is Lost River Game Farm, the parcel they call Purgatory. I just put down my oldest lab, she was 14.5 years old. She and I hunted that spot many times together. Took friends and sons of friends on their first hunts there. That spot gives you a chance to wander a bit, diverse terrain, good for small groups.

The owner is great and so is his whole family. Always make you feel welcome. It's been a few years, but a lot of great memories there.

Both places you mentioned are good to deal with but if you want a scenic place to hunt, IMO Sugar Creek is a bit more scenic.

Never been to a game farm but a coworjer has spoken highly of Royal flush hunting preserve out areound Cloverdale as I understand it. I hear the have pheasant, quail and a couple other species. And offer guided hunts with a dog handler not sure of prices. This is something I want to try & go do with my daughter this year

I've been to Lost River once about 10 years ago, and Royal Flush a handful of times. The guides and dogs at both places were great. Royal Flush has a lot of ground and is fairly flat with pockets of timber. The field we hunted at Lost River was brushy with lots of trees which made it more challenging, but it was fun.

Been to Lost River. Really enjoyed it. Me and my 3 buddies had a perfect hunt. We bought 10 chuckers and 10 pheasants for half day. Our guide and his dogs were excellent

If you want somewhat exotic but not too far away. Pelee Island, Canada. its about a 5 hour drive to Leamington where you would catch the plane. (the ferry boat doesnt run in the winter)

    Pheasant Hunts | Pelee Island

I vacation here every summer. Wife has family there, who coincidentally lives next door to the pheasant farm. (its a put/take hunt) One of these days Im going up there to and try it out. Looks like fun.

Thanks guys... there are quite a few options. Right now we are leaning toward Sugar Creek or maybe even Fields Outdoor Adventures. Last year was his first year and he was trained by Merrill from Flat Rock. He has some awesome pics off his gun shop site that he said he takes of the hunts and sends to the hunters.

I've hunted Field Adventures a few times. They have nice fields and good flyers. I'm not thrilled to necessarily have an individual walking along on my hunts but it is what it is. The last thing I need is to worry about where one more person is at and or how my dog focuses with unknown parties in the field, etc but Jason stayed out of the way for the most part and did capture some nice damn pics of our hunts.

I loved Flat Rock and was saddened they went out of business. I also have had excellent experiences with Lost River down south. They give you a field and let you go at it and leave you alone to do your thing and enjoy your hunt with family and friends.

Here is a couple captured by Jason at Field Adventures:

Kickapoo near Attica. Roger owns the place and raises champion bird dogs. Kickapoo Kennel > Hunting

I've been to Lost River several times, and Royal Flush too. If i had to choose it would be Kickapoo, especially if you want to hunt over his dogs..

What choke would you guys used from a remington 870 along with size lead?

Preseve hunting you'd be fine with 6's out of a improved cylinder. You start hunting wild birds in Iowa, South Dakota, etc - it's 5's with medium to full chokes all day long.
