Why wouldn't you, as long as it is a legal place to take a firearm? It might require an Indiana Handgun License, but I'm not sure about that.

It's a handgun under Indiana law.

    “Handgun” means any firearm:

    (1) designed or adapted so as to be aimed and fired from one (1) hand, regardless of barrel length; or

    (2) any firearm with:

    (A) a barrel less than sixteen (16) inches in length; or

    (B) an overall length of less than twenty-six (26) inches.

    Ind. Code Ann. § 35-47-1-6

The overall length is over 26" which causes it to fall into a category of "firearm" (not a shotgun, not a handgun, from the federal viewpoint) because it is designed to fire shotgun shells, has a barrel less than 16" and never had a long arm stock attached. If you slap a stock on it, it becomes an SBS and requires a tax stamp. Change the grip and reduce the length, it becomes an AOW (allegedly, from the federal view).

Don't confuse federal law with state law. Under state law, which is what I referenced, it is a handgun. Indiana state law is what determines when a LTCH is needed, and note the "less than 16 inches OR under 26 inches in length.

Which is why I edited it right after I hit submit. :)

I got a chance to shoot my Asylum Weaponry Remington 870 Gatekeeper today. I shot several of the Nobel Sport 2 1/4" Mini Buck shells. There are 6 00 buckshot with an advertised velocity of 1250 fps. They functioned without any problems. They patterned well at 10 yards (under 8"), but at 15 yards, forget it. You may get a couple on a B-27 if you're lucky. The recoil was very manageable and no problem endangering my face when the gun was held up to eye level and fired using the front bead. The strap I added on the forend was very useful and helped control even when I fired some 2 3/4" full load 00 buck (9 pellets). It is still hard to control with the full house 2 3/4" 12 ga. loads, but the more I shot, the better I got, so there is a learning curve (at least for me). I had put a piece of bicycle inner tube on the birdshead grip. It did seem to help with keeping my grip. After several rounds, the inner tube rode up slightly towards the trigger guard, but didn't present any problem and still was useful. The photo below is of a 2/34" 12 ga. slug, a 2 1/4" Mini Buck and an Aguila mini load. I tried the mini loads, but they had to be individually pushed into the chamber, so they aren't a consideration for the Remmy IMHO.

Cool, been wanting to check out a Gatekeeper but no one around me has one, just a bunch of Shockwaves.
The Shockwave is a fine gun and has some advantages over the Gatekeeper. I only went with the Gatekeeper because I have decades of trigger time with a Remington 870. I decided to "dance with the one who brought me".

I am a Remington man myself which is why I wanted to check one out. First Shotgun I ever owned, at 11 years old, was an 870 12 ga.

Sort of been an 870 guy myself but the Mossberg 590 isn't all that bad so it will do for now. :yesway:

Going to take mine out tomorrow and try some hornady 00 buck tomorrow for giggles. That stuff is rated at 1600 fps according to box. Yikes. I'm just going to go to parabellum in Avon. So probably no hip firing.

Talk to the RO about lowering the table. I've done it before.
