What doubts? You think that the government increasing its use of forfeiture is because of some altruistic desire to punish criminals?
Ah, English and reference issues. My bad. :)

My doubt lies in whether forfeiture efforts actually bridge budget gaps. I'm not convinced, but that may be for a different time.

Government's duty to fight crime is not altruistic. It is a part of its raison d'etre.

Like my law enforcement? Hardly. Downsizing would be good for them.
Good luck running for office on that platform.

Out of curiosity, other than the BATFE, what would you downsize? Looking at state/local, what would you minimize or get rid of? Personnel costs are, last I was involved in these issues, the biggest budgetary issue.

How do you see forfeiture helping in the fight against meth?

Were the owners arrested and charged with a crime? If not, why not?

:lol2: I'm sure other views would preclude that before that one ever became an issue.

A large number of the Federal agencies. Does anyone even know how many there are? I did a quick search and couldn't find an answer. Looks like every agency has at least one apparently their Office of Inspector General; Treasury looks to have seven; Transportation, five; NASA has two; so on and so forth.

Oh, and you can add the DEA to your ATF. Both need to go.

Not only the owners but the other occupants of the vehicles too.

I was on scene of a traffic accident that took place a few years ago. Driver was suspended prior in a vehicle that he did not know who owned it with 40k+ in cash strewn around the interior. Looked like it came out of a shoe box that was laying on the back seat. The most interesting thing happened, no one knew who the cash belonged too and no one ever came to claim it. Weird, almost like it was illegal drug money or something......

Same reason my kids know to do what I say, consequences man...
    Interesting.

As a parent, if your kid messes something up, do you take all his/her possessions?

What if you aren't even really sure your kid is the one who messed up?

    You know... consequences.

Youre cute, I really like your effort.
    Thanks.

    I find your effort lacking.

Perhaps I should rephrase. Do you think the forfeiture process is a benefit to fighting crime? If so, what benefit does it provide?

The law will not save us. The law will not make the country better. Returning to our Christian roots is the only way to restore common sense to all facets of our society.

Assuming this assertion is true, which I have my doubts, it leaves a different problem: eliminating forfeiture would then require tax increases to maintain the current level of law enforcement.

If you like your law enforcement, you can keep your law enforcement. Or something like that.

Yea the local police department spends too much on BS anyway. I don't think a politician can get elected saying we spend too much on police but refusing to raise taxes for them seems plausible.

Putting a real dent in that meth problem.
Meth is bad, tweaking it and selling it as Adderall on the otherhand...
