Definitely up to no good! As soon as he realized the doorbell is a camera, he split.
if he was there for any good reason, he'd have given at least 30 seconds for someone to answer the door.
I love those cameras, we have a similar one on my moms house.

Yea, those things are great. I've turned away many sales people. It is funny watching them give their pitch to a camera. I also think it has an influence on UPS and Postal workers. I am getting good at installing those. I installed them for my father and my aunt, who are both in their 80's. Both of my daughters have them at their homes, and I am getting ready to install a floodlight/camera to watch my driveway. I can controll them all from my phone. I wonder if they are having any influence on crime.

His cow could have gotten out and did some damage on your land. His kid's drone could have crashed on your land. He could want all of your money.
Unfortunately, these days it's best to assume the worst until you find out otherwise.

He looks like a scrapper. Do you or your neighbors have anything visible from the road that looks like there is a possibility you would let someone haul it away for free if they would just take it? Also, do you live near a pond that he might want to fish in?

He looks like a soup sandwich.

Yeah, I've got one of those little in the door doors with an iron grate over it...I could just open it and go "WHAZZZZUUUUUUUUP?"

Ah door in the door? Don't forget your costume!

What if that look wasn't because of the camera? What if he hadn't even seen the camera. What if he's allergic to bees and he saw a bee just above where the camera was? So he grabbed his falling britches and left.

Doesn't look that suspicious . . . but two things bothered me:

    1. Using knuckle to ring doorbell.
    2. Leaving after only a few seconds and not ringing it a second time after about ten or fifteen seconds. Wasn't long enough for someone to answer the door if they were home and wanted to. I always ring a second time after about ten seconds and wait another ten or fifteen seconds.
There's a knife in his pocket on a clip, but there's nothing illegal about it and it's a common sight. Be observant and you'll see them everywhere. The pocket clips are very popular now for spring assisted one-hand knives with locking blades. I carry a knife in a case on my belt as it's too large to fit into my pocket. It goes everywhere with me . . . except into those venues where it's prohibited by law (i.e. a courthouse). For all those who want constitutional carry (raise your hands, please; as I thought, more hands than people present), if he had shown a pattern of what appeared to be a concealed handgun, would that be suspicious? A significant missing piece here is how he arrived there. Was it on foot . . . on bicycle . . . in a vehicle? Did he wander around the property before approaching the door?

Don't delete the video. File it away, along with the incident, but I wouldn't be alarmed by it.

A young man in his late 20's or early 30's came to my door today, and it was odd, very odd. Mid-afternoon. No badge, or logo shirt, or clipboard. Looked like some papers folded up in his hand. Wearing cargo shorts and a polo shirt. I have a storm door that would take some effort to break through before I could slam the very solid front door shut and bolt it. Answered the door and he mumbled something about folks complaining about cable service in the neighborhood. Asked if I was having trouble. Possible probing to see who's home. Possibly a sales scam. Who knows. Rare occurrence on my street. Quietly went out another door to watch him leave a few seconds after he left my driveway and yard. He was on foot walking down to the end of the block. Also unusual.

Filed the incident away for future reference.
