I have the birdshead vaquero in 44mag, depending on the ammo it's fun to shoot or a little painful. But it is one of my favorite guns, if I could find the exact same gun in 357/38 I would pick it up just because the ammo is cheaper. awesome gun though and an absolute beauty.

Frankly I plan to use it just to plink at this point, no matches in the foreseeable future although I wouldn't rule it out. If I can manage to get decent shots I'll be happy. I'm not hung up on pin point accuracy.

I guess I must be taking my plinking too seriously. I love to plink with pinpoint accuracy. lol

I do have a Vaquero. I have had fun throwing a coffee can out in the yard and seeing how far I can roll it, starting at about 10 feet. You'd be surprised how good you can get with just instinctive point and shoot. Get's kind of expensive with .45 colt though. I can get close to .22 prices with .32 H&R.

I bought my Super Blackhawk with 7.5 inch barrel in 1987 and the Super Blackhawk with the 5.5 inch barrel in 1999. I like them both a lot. The older one as way more rounds through it. It was my first handgun. I bought them with hunting in mind, but also had a good source for cheep 44 specials. Now that I reload, I still have a very cheep source for specials and magnums. Recoil is mild and a lot of fun plinking with. An added bonus is my favorite deer rifle fires the same cartridge. You cannot go wrong with a Ruger revolver.

I had a 5 1/2" 357 mag older model blued. Stainless is harder to see the sights in the sun and they look like crap after you shoot them although hold up better than blued.

I sent mine off to Bob Munden for one of his "fine action jobs". It came back smooth as silk and was dialed in. With custom Kirkpatrick leather it weighed a ton.

I off loaded it at the break even point. Love my Glock and kydex.

My cousin hung on to his two consecutive serial nickel plated new model 357 mags and his birds head 32mag.

They are solid shooting irons for fun. I also had a 10 1/2" SBH. Horse traded it off for a G21.

Frankly I've just never found the joy in something that causes pain. I fired a M2 or 50Cal in the service and it was an experience but being shaken to death isn't something I look forward too doing everyday. it was night fire so we setup our left and right limits using sand bags. I'll bet to this day that same barrel has melted sand bag still attached to that barrel.

I don't have many but what I do have Ruger makes up a good percentage of that total. So even though I'm a new Yorker at this Ruger gets my vote. In fact everything I have in 22 besides my Henry Golden Boy is from Ruger. Mark IV, GP 100 22, Single Ten, and I'm pretty certain I'll be going for another in a few weeks.

This ones strictly going to be for fun, but then again all the ones I have are for fun. I personally can't see me trading this for a Glock but then again plastic doesn't really appeal to me. I'm more a metal and wood kind of guy. 1911, Sig, Beretta, and Ruger metal revolvers and such. I did buy a Walther PPQ M2 and SA XDS early on but they're far from being my favorites but those are the only plastic guns I own.

    Near the big river.
Ditto on the positive comments for the Vaquero.

I have 4 of them and they are shot a lot.

Built so that my great grand kids will be shooting them.

Are they the Vaquero or New Vaquero version and which version do you like the best and why if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah, just call me a cheap wimp. LOL

I do think it funny when at the pistol range firing 22 I can afford to be there for a few hours a week and somebody stops by for about 15 or 30 minutes to fire larger caliber rounds.

He seems like a really great guy. I'll have to relocate if I want a range like that. It's flatter than a pancake around here. Mine is a big three sided box made out of 4x4s, lined with concrete and filled full of sand. It's about 12 feet across. Took some time to build, but I feel confident I won't be hitting my neighbors.
