Driving back from St. Louis and I saw a billboard in Illinois for a gun shop/range and I was thinking how those poor bastards have to wait to actually take possession of the gun after purchasing, so I went and bought a gun and was at the range within 30 minutes of walking in the gun shop door. Indiana is great.

A couple of times it’s just because you guys talked me into it!
That's great. I jokingly tried to get my mom to buy me another pistol because it would make treatment go easier. She almost did before dad and I told her that I was joking.

How about "It looks cool and I want one?" I bought a S&W 5906 a few years back from CDNN on a whim. I had a 6906 and thought I would like it's big brother as well. Have no real use for it, but I like it. Same reason for the 4506.

Now that I think of it, I may have a problem... Know any support groups?

You're in the right place. :ingo: You've taken the first step - admitting you have a problem. Hi, my name is DoggyDaddy and I am a gunaholic. :)

In the mid-19th century Colt experimented with making his Model 1851 a .40 caliber.
Sounds like a pretty good idea to me so the conversion is underway.

Because . . . because I thought the pistol looked cool. It was a P5. I was a teenager. I was impressionable. Rhino made me do it. I did it for money. The Devil made me.

Bought a Dan Wesson .357 4 barrel cased kit once cause it was so shiny; then a couple months later bought another one that was even shinier. Would that be frivolous and frivolouser?
One pistol pak and three Dan Wessons total. It's a sickness. Bought a 99% 2.5 barrel DW earlier this year because I had a loose 6 inch barrel and a new old stock set of target grips for it. Yeah, they belonged together.

Let's see...you were impressionable and liked money as a teenager and Rhino is the devil?

I've almost always had a practical reason for buying guns (my ex called them excuses) but I did buy a minty Nambu at an auction once because...well, history and cool proof marks and...that cured me of frivolous purchases.

I am getting better at avoiding frivolous purchases. The temptation is still there, but the realist in my has me looking at how it would fit into the carry routine. If there's no excuse there, I then think of how often it would bump other guns out of the range bag when I go shooting. If I'm honest and think that it will not get shot much or carried at all, then I ask myself if it has any investment value. In other words, if it's something I'll get tired of in three years, will I be able to at least get my money out of it. If the answers are all no, I tell myself to walk away from it no matter how much fun it looks like for right now. I wish I had done that before buying some of the guns in the collection right now. The Gen 5 G19 is a good case in point. Don't need it for carry. It would not be my first choice in taking it out for a fun shooting day and with prices up right now, I'd lose money when it comes time to sell. Maybe in a year or so when there are lightly used ones on the market to be had, which while by no means an investment, it does mean that I could buy used, run it for a while and then sell for the same price I paid rather quickly.

I buy guns that I don't really "need" but for some reason I justify it in my own mind. I bought a Walther over 15 years ago because James Bond had one. I have never even shot the silly gun!

For defensive purposes I have carried nothing but a glock for over 20 years now. Everything else is for fun and collecting...

That's almost the reason I bought my PPK/S. Although in 380, it is so fun to shoot and easy to carry. Actually more accurate than the sights would let you think. Sadly 380 ammo prices raised up way too much for causal shooting. And I need more than 2 mags.
