Thinking outside the box, what about one of these? (just make sure you get a 2 hose model. Single hose models cause excess unconditioned air to be pulled into the space to replace what is exhausted out, making them less efficient)

We got my Grandpa one of these for his sun room a few years ago. They do work pretty well and he was happy with it. He did plumbing and HVAC work his entire life and still just wanted one of these.

It was a difficult to reach place, I could’ve capped it myself but my wife really wanted it fixed. When he got the O ring out it was actually some sort of fiber washer that is non-standard. Was not sure he would be able to even find them locally. That particular tub install they did not put water shut off valves in place. Did not want to leave uncapped water lines for the water shut off on the house for a few days. Wife later decided she’d rather use as us than capnit off. At the end of the visit Everything was the same as at the beginning

last time a plumber was in our in our bathroom I was charged hundreds of dollars just for the cartridge for our shower. That I later learned the manufacture will send for free.

This is why I absolutely hate plumbing. There are a zillion different faucets drain hubs hose bibs you name it. I am not sure you could actually stock a truck. I will do my own work but past a water heater install not for me.

Not sure who you had quote it, but there are more realistic company's out there. Just remember, a company has to make money to keep their doors open. You won't find anyone to install it for what you find it for online. I have done several for less than half what they quoted.

I usually come in at 50% of the big box company's quotes.

Heck Doc I installed a 2.5 ton A/C and 92% eff gas furnace complete for $5500 and it was a total bear to do. His nearest quote was $10K and we made enough on it.

You are paying for the installer/salesman's cut/company overhead etc.

    Now.........about this last Hospital bill...................:runaway:...:faint:.......:):

I totally get markup and other costs. But if I can buy buy the unit to my door for $2200 they can probably get it for $1900 or less, add a markup back to $2600 and do well on the product. I already have the wire in place but not hooked to panel. Need to move three breakers up a position to make room for a 220 breaker.

$5000 in labor? That’s what blows me away. I have two more companies lined up for estimates.

CM if HVAC insurance existed you would triple you charges so when you get paid $0.28 of what you bill it’s still close. We collect about $0.12 per dollar billed.

    :stickpoke:.........:)

That money is not all profit. Trucks/tools/insurance/payroll for office staff etc and so on. I have been self employed with employees. I found that it sucks.

Zero help on the AC side. We have thermal curtains on all our windows and even the front door, door gets so hot it will burn your hand. It makes a huge difference. But then your sun room is no longer a sun room. My wife claims I'm a vampire, but a cool vampire.

Not really, get three 1 gallon milk jugs, and freeze them. Then rotate through them. They should each last a few hours (3 - 5 depending on temp).

We had a 78 Malibu wagon about 12 years ago. It was a street racer/sleeper. It had A/C from the factory but all of that had been removed to get the weight down. We would do some hot summer night cruise events with it. Spouse got pretty hot in that car.
I had a 12V water pump in my old parts shelves. Copper line with insulation on it. A nice cooler. A few old Trans coolers that mount on the radiators. I had a brain storm. As we did little to no street racing at those events weight was not a serious factor. I selected the proper cooler. Mounted 3 of the big trans coolers in it. Mounted the pump on the side of it. Ran the copper lines along the trans tunnel up into the heater box. In the box I mounted a refrigeration evaporator from an under counter box we took out of a restaurant and scrapped. I kept the coil for some odd reason.
Put a gel cell battery back by the cooler with a wire from the Alternator to keep it charged and double the duty cycle on the DC power source.
Fill the lines with distilled water. Quick couplers allowed removing the cooler if needed. Battery and pump as well. With the cooler filled with ice and a few gallons of water it exchanged temp well enough to cool the car. I could pre-cool the car before we left and it was pleasant enough inside even on hot days. The heater fan circulated the air across the evap that had the chilled water in it. We could sit with the windows up on a hot day with the engine off and cool the car for a while.

When we sold the car I kept all that stuff. It is in a friends camper now. It works pretty good.
