In for at least one on the group buy, maybe two.

So I will probably get off my butt and take the exam. Wife tolerates my prepping but no way is she taking an exam. Do I buy two for us to talk to each other or just one for monitoring and keeping up on info?

If you don't have a license you can't talkon ham bands. So if you get your license and she doesn't she won't be able to reply to you.

I say bribe her to pass the test

    It's crazy easy.

i just enjoy listening in more then anything else.
info is "money" so to speak.

No. I had just got my eBay bucks so decided to use them and get the radio basically for free. Found a good reputable seller and went that route. From the way the packaging is, i have to believe was somewhere once in Ups possession. Sent email to ebay seller. See what response i get to determine the end level of how mad i am! I have had 2 issues in the past with buying on ebay, out of several hundred, and its always worked out. Have had to get ebay involved on one and they took care of it. Guess we shall see.
I finally got mine uploaded to CHIRP. Still messing around with what frequency I want. Once you get yours and a list together let me know. I’ll be more then happy to upload what you want.

maybe she will let you keep the radios in the divorce. :):

    LOL!

It's a process and she does not giggle so much anymore when she talks to family about her crazy prepper husband. She certainly enjoyed hot coffee and breakfast every morning when our power was out for a week. Plenty of potable water when it was off for a couple of days. I can now get her to grab some BOB items when she travels. Even got her to poop in a hole last month, although I had to dig the hole. We'll get there, hopefully before TEOTWAWKI.

I posted this in the group buy thread.

To everyone in the Indy area. I have friends in the Noblesville and Fishers are that I see at least once a month, so as long as you are willing to wait 30 days at the most from the time I receive them I can get them that far. It would help me a lot if I can delivery the radios to one person so that person can distribute them out to the rest of the Indy INGO members.

It’s the same radio. I bought the one from amazon because the OP’s link sent me to amazon.

    Thank you, kind sir.

So more ignorance on my part:
So is this the "radio of choice" in a SHTF situation?
Primarily for monitoring or does it have great range for transmission as well (Assuming I get my HAM license)?

No problem. I’m VERY ignorant to all this. I tried a few years ago but got frustrated and gave up. I’m a lot further now but still have a long way to go. I’ve watched a lot of YouTube videos on this and it seems to be the radio of choice for people starting out. Right now I’m just using as a scanner and two way communication with the family. I should get my ham license but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

these are entry level radios. if you get into ham you will eventually upgrade to the serious radios, $$$. think of this radio as a hi-point it will get the job done but its not pertty.

the differemce between the amazon link and the group buy is the price and what you get. the amazon link will get you just the radio.

the group buy gets you the radio, an extra battery pack that uses AAA vs recharger battery like a cellphone, and a car antenna. the AAA battery pack allows you to use std AAA batteries for the radio. the car anetnna can be used inside as well and give you better range on the radio.

    programming cable is optional.

What kind of two way communication are you currently using with the family?
FRS/family radio services and MURS/Multi Use Radio Service. My son went for a bike ride around town. We had no problem getting 3 miles. The radio said it should get out 7 miles but from what I’ve read that’s more then likely cut in half.

Got it, thx. Problem is that the group buy is way north of where I am in Hamilton County.
