This is not really a DIY thing unless you own a lathe.... But I am doing a carry comp build and I thought I would post pics. I actually practiced videoing it but they are still uploading to you tube. If they allow posting and they come out ok I may attach them later.
Starting out with a nice Springfield Champion in 45< I will be added an EGW carry comp to the existing barrel
This pistol has a bull barrel already but this can be done to a bushing barrel and the cone comp will act as a Bull barrel once it is installed.
After figuring out how far back to turn the barrel down and thread so that there would not be a big seam where the comp ends at I set it up and turned it down to .575" and threaded 40 TPI.
The barrel will get blended and re crowned after everything is fit
Now that that is on the area up against the comp needs turned down to fit the slide. it is over sized by about .075"
This pic shows a prelim fit and gets me started toward final fitting and indexing the comp
But before duing that the front of the slide needs a 1 degree angle cut on it so when the barrel tips up into battery the comp is flush with the slide.
Some hand stone work to fine tune the indexing
Turn and blend the barrel and comp
after clearing the bottom of the comp for the guide rod I had a functioning pistol again
Now just to blend and shape the outside of the comp and slide for looks
