The internet is a great place for info. It is also a great place for bad info. Les Baers have a tendency to mess up occasionally in the 1st 500+ because they are stupid tight when delivered. They will even state as much. Never made sense to me but folks love them. I am not a fan. Shot a few. Nice guns. I will do my own.

Bought a 45 Premier 2 years back, had 2 or 3 ftf's in the first 300 rounds and that was it. Used it for my competition gun until my wrists told me they no longer like shooting thousands of 45's per year. When I sold it the blue was largely gone from holster wear but the slide still felt tight as new and the bushing was not coming off for anybody without a wrench, extractor felt loose and probably should have been bent back a tad but everything still worked so I left it as it was.

For xmas I decided I wanted to get back into 1911's so I got a 9mm premier 2 this time. Splurged and got the 1.5" 50 yard guarantee. Maybe 600 ish rounds so far, playing with different recoil springs and mags and ammo to see what I like, not one ftf.

    Sweet.
Like Expat (I think) stated the issues come from folks that do not take proper care during the initial.
Yes a 1911 requires some attention. If you are not "That" guy then maybe pick another platform.

got a pic of that Baer?

Did not take much arm twisting.
Grips, mag release, short trigger all changed. Matching grip screws are on my Xmas list :) . Interesting with the trigger, am used to CZ's and Tanfo's and the longer trigger just messed me up.
Not sure how long the fat tech well grips have been available, best I have found for my hands. The fiber front sight came from Baer, it is the fat fiber and is well protected, I think that is my favorite design now assuming no issues down the road.

Dan Wessons are rock solid - though I'm not blindly loyal to them. They are almost always my first recommendation for anyone able to spend $1000-1500 on a 1911.
The S&W PC 1911s are great in my experience - many options: round butts, commanders, light weight, etc.

My next 1911 will be a lightweight commander size Dan Wesson of some flavor (in 9mm..... oh the blasphemy!!!)
... but my next handgun will be a S&W 625.

Hello. New to this Forum, first post. I have a Sig Sauer 1911 Scorpion Carry as my EDC. I’m very happy with the gun and believe Sig builds a tight, reliable, quality gun. I like the look of the Sig Scorpions and am very happy with how it performs. Would recommend the Sig 1911 without reservation.

Yep, welcome to INGO! I am a SIG fan as well, although I don't own one of their 1911's. There are those "purists" out there however who say that SIG strayed too far from the original 1911 design, and therefore are not to be mentioned in the same breath as the other "real 1911's". Not sure why that matters, but to some it does just on principle I guess.

As far as I am concerned, they are ALL GOOD!

    James,
I’m with you, they are all good. Everyone’s got a point of view and are entitled to it. At the end of they day, people should buy and use what works for them.

I am trying to decide what, if anything, I need next...
I am pretty happy with the current group... but have to admit that for some reason I always look at any Gold Cups I see at a show. I don't have one...

Thank you. The Sig guns are great, a bit pricey. I found my carry at a pawnshop for $650. In perfect condition, properly cared for and low round count. Finding a “deal” makes it all the better for me.

Kimbers pre-Schwartz safety 1911's is a good value and a great place to start as a base gun I believe. This would put them before 2001-02 I believe while Chip had his hands in them. I bought a supposedly "unfired" Kimber Classic Royal made probably around 2000. A beautiful piece.

The early ones are decent guns.

I browsed Indiana Gun Club today and was pretty impressed with the new Dan Wesson Vigil series, 45 or 9, CCO through full-size, they were a good deal at around 1195.00, this is probably where i'd start if I was looking for a good 1911.

    I believe i will go with either a d.w. vigil/a2/dpecialist or a s.a. trp/r.o.
It will depend on the deal i find and when i find it. I am notorious for letting fate decide what and when i buy. Lately theres been a lot of deals wherever i happen to go -_-

Caveat to my op. AA brought up a point on his thread for a collectible 1911. I think he has a similar mind set. What about building a 1911 from scratch. That would kill my wanting a long term project itch as well. Thoughts on this?
