A Ruger Charger on a sling with a decent optic is all you need for every squirrel within 40 yards of your position.

    Truth ! :yesway:

    1. I have seen those and wondered if they would be fun as a really accurate pistol (the ones I've seen come with a "stand."

    A "stand" ??? ..... do you mean a bipod ?

Here's mine. The photo was taken before I put a red dot on the rail. It'll take squirrel head-shots all-day-long ! :rockwoot:

    1. Wow! That gets my attention!
    2. I was under the impression that these type of pistols were single-shot, but perhaps that was just one I saw at the LGS, a Thompson, I think.

A 10" Ruger Single Six or Mark II. Both 10" Ruger's are easy to carry. You can also get a Ruger Flap holster to carry either one if you want to keep it all Ruger.

10" MK2 be a bit pricey these days.
And really, 6.5" or shorter is easier to carry.
OP wants to carry it as a secondary gun, not primary.
That to me means hip carry.
If deer hunting and sitting in stands.........long holsters on the hip suck.

    1. Is this the model Ruger 22 Charger 4924?

    2. Or, the Ruger 22 Charger 4923?

I don't really know the model number :dunno:, but I can tell you that it's a Take-down model, and I was told that the green laminate stock is not offered anymore.
It was shot at the FGE is October, and KJQ can verify that I was spinning some little tiny 'spinner targets'. It's a fun gun, and it might become available (if you should have an interest).

    1. Always interested in a new, different .22LR: that's why I sent you the pic of the one I found for $300 to get your advice.
    2. The Breakdown type I can buy new for $316, and the regular ones for $243, so when I buy one it's a matter of what kind of scope is on it.
    3. I only have a Bushnell TRS-25 Red Dot Sight 1x25mm - 3 MOA that I bought last Oct. and never used.
    4. Well, I'm off to the range for some .22LR fun to find out which S/W 22A-1 to sell to help pay for a Ruger Charger.
    5. Fell free to pm me or get my cell number to talk.

OK, so the latest update in the search for the perfect treerat removal device goes as follows:

Went out to 3 different stores selling guns to look at/fondle different .22's...
Finally got to feel the difference between the mark iv lite and mark iv target--wow, what a difference!
Got to feel the difference between the wooden grips (on a mark iv hunter, I believe) and the regular grips--believe it or not, I didn't particularly like the wood grips at all, especially compared to the straight grips on the target.
Lastly, I got to fondle a buckmark in comparison to a mark iv...both seemed really nice to be honest. Very nice feel, balance, fit in the hand, etc. for both. The mark iv wins due to the takedown feature.

As of right now, I think I'm on the lookout for a used mark iv target model 40101. I'm hoping I eventually find one here/at a LGS for a good price (read "cheap"), as I'm a little strapped for spending $$ and I am just too cheap to pay full new prices...

Oh, and my last comment I would like to share is that if you live anywhere close at all to the north side of Indy/Noblesville area, it would be pretty difficult to find nicer folks than those who helped me at Hoosier Armory. Very patient, very knowledgeable, and very willing to answer all kinds of questions. Though I didn't find exactly what I wanted there this time, I most certainly WILL be back!!
