I was just reading an article by our local gun writer in the March NRA magazine. She referenced a plausible scenario that made me cringe. Then I read this story.........

    From the above mentioned article.....

Well crap even Fox got this wrong. The gun is not unlicensed, the guy was. And I believe that's a Colt 1911 in the pick, not a Hi-Point.

[h=1]Indiana man with unlicensed gun accidentally shoots self in genitals, police say
    [/h]

An Indiana man was hospitalized last week after accidentally shooting himself in the penis with an unlicensed handgun, police said in a press release.

Mark Anthony Jones, 46, told authorities he was carrying the gun in his waistband while standing on a walkway near a Girl Scout cabin in Marion last Thursday, the release said.
The gun, which did not have a holster, began to slip, Jones reportedly told police. When he tried to adjust the gun, it discharged, the release said.

If if a tree falls on the woods and no one hears it...

This is an example of trying to be too creative with a thread header.

"Marion man shoots himself in genitals with Hi-Point"

That tells a current events story folks want to know about.

"Always have a holster (and LTCH)"

Sounds like a discussion on holster use. Creative, once one reads the thread, but not very descriptive of the actual thread topic.

If the thread is so cryptically identified how would others even know the topic was already posted? So I disagree that this thread was "scooped". In fact it is now being posted over there that the discussion is here.

How the heck do 2A people affect any change with such complete ignorance of the topics "reporting"?

"Jones reached down to adjust the gun and it discharged."

Amazing he reached down and the gun discharged. The article is idiotic. More like he grabbed it and pulled the trigger.
The way it was wrote a snowflake would assume the pistol did it on its own.

Bear in mind the mindset of most journalism majors, that wasn't an accident. Or they are quoting him and no self respecting hoodlum is going to say "I reached down and bumped the trigger"

His first mistake was carrying a HI-POINT! Second mistake was no secured holster, i could go on but I'll stop there. As I've said before, and as happened to me after over 50 yrs. of involvement with handguns. COMPLACENCY is the biggest cause of accidental discharge of a gun. everyone should continually revue their personal gun safety rules. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN UNLOADED GUN!!
