They've been doing this since Reagan (actually before, but most notably). Not going to pass.

I will like people to note, that the 22nd Amendment was not found in the original Constitution, so if this was passed, we would simply be one step closer to the founder's original vision.

Did the founders get it wrong?

    HA!
(who is going to take the bait?)

LOL, by that logic, the 2nd Amendment was not in "the original Constitution".

Not wrong. Just incomplete. And they knew it. Which is why they included an amendment process. Bait taken and gulped, hook returned to sender.

So... anyone worried about Trump's talk of a 3rd term?

Is "Hell No" still the response?

INGO can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a difference lies in who has brought it up in the past. I don't recall a sitting POTUS actually floating the idea. Perhaps dodging if asked, but not actually bringing it up unprompted.

Not with Trump. I think it'll be part of his stump speech.

Are you actually taking that as seriously? Trump is a master of teasing the media and this is a prime example.

If/when he comes towards the end of his second term and is actively talking about going for a third, then maybe it should be taken seriously. Until then, *anyone* taking it seriously is the one that is delusional.

So we can't take anything the president says seriously, we've just come to expect lies, half-truths, and empty rhetoric.

And we're OK with this? :dunno:

    Fair enough.

How will we know when he's "actively" talking about it, instead of just "talking" about it? When a bill is sponsored?

He's trolling. No other president has trolled like he does. Heads are exploding; he likes it.

Was there any president in your lifetime that this statement wouldn't apply to?

I don't ever recall seeing anyone on INGO every saying, "No, don't worry about Obama saying that, we he doesn't mean it." (doesn't this thread illustrate that?)

Or, insert anything said by Schumer, Pelosi, AOC, etc.

I don't recall any Presidents uttering so many unbelievable, off-the-wall and off-the-cuff, one day this, next day that, statements and commitments.

One day we're entering a trade agreement with a country, the next day there's the a promise of a tariff, and then the next day, no tariff.

I certainly don't recall Regan being this mercurial and flaky with his words.

I don't like it either but no we can't

Seems like he's far more about talking first and thinking some other time. Other presidents did a much better job at presentation and appearances.

He's trolling. No other president has trolled like he does. Heads are exploding; he likes it.

I question whether it's deliberate or just his reality. Trolls eventually admit it, revealing the subject has been duped is usually part of the fun. Then again, I've been saying since I first heard that this is a "I bet you can't..." "hold my beer and watch this" rather than serious presidency. He does like it [attention] though.

Don't get me wrong, I'll take him over the alternative, but polishing doesn't change material.

So is it better or worse for our republic/transient popular oligarchy to have a Troll In Chief or work through proxies, which is the more traditional route?

I simply described what he is doing. I didn't endorse it. Trolling is juvenile no matter who does it....and yes, sometimes I can be a bit juvenile.

I know why he brought it up, but honestly, that anyone would believe that Obama or Trump would try it (without an Constitutional amendment) just mystifies me.

    ETA:

...and if anyone was worried about a third Obama term, now is the time to actually think about it. No amendment necessary.
