Does anyone have a spare $11,273.03 I can borrow ?

This is the price for the complete “one box” emissions system on a Freightliner I love Trucking !

Might as well retire, buy a new truck, or get a company job. Glider kit’s an option if you don’t go to Kaliforniastan I guess? I don’t really understand how that state thinks, but at least I’m in good company. Pricing the little guy right out of the biz.

oh, almost forgot to answer the question. No

I am going to start trading the newer DEF trucks at under 500,000. I have to buy two newer ones this year I won’t have a DEF truck without a warranty again.
Sad thing this truck was going to get traded in August it just needed to make it another month.

Have you thought about a glider? A true non-emmision engine in a brand new truck. Fitzgerald makes some pretty good ones. As long as you're not going into California, you're fine. Your maintenance goes way down.

I still have 3 non emissions trucks and two 2014 Freightliner Coronado’s we don’t do California just the Midwest and southern states. I might buy a factory glider from Freightliner it’s cheaper than the Fitzgerald and has a factory rebuilt Detroit. They ship it complete without the engine or transmission then install a rebuild Detroit and Eaton rebuild Transmission.

I still don’t understand why my C15 Cat has 1.1 million miles and runs great and doesn’t blow black smoke and spoil the environment.

You can't hardly buy a glider truck anymore. Fitzgerald gliders is all we had until recently. A couple years ago there was a law passed that started phasing out gliders over a 4 year period. Fitzgerald has pretty much quit with the gliders and started making wreckers. The feds keep saying they are going to review it but it keeps getting pushed back

I knew that the feds had started to get involved. But last I heard, the Trump admin had stopped this. It's been some time since I've followed it though.

EPA Green-Lights Audit of Controversial Glider Kit Emissions Study

While glider kits originally were designed to allow truck owners to refurbish wrecked vehicles, in recent years they gained popularity as a way for truck owners to avoid early-generation low-emissions engines that were plagued with maintenance problems and got poorer fuel economy. Opponents of glider kits saw this as a loophole that needed to be closed, and the GHG Phase 2 emissions/fuel economy regulations curtailed their use. Some glider kit makers, including Fitzgerald, challenged the Obama-era rules. Currently the EPA is still evaluating a proposal that would remove the glider kit provisions from the rules.

Adding to the furor is the fact that the Republican lawmakers requesting the audit seem to be suggesting Volvo North America rigged the study to produce an outcome in support of newer, emissions-compliant truck models.

The matter is further clouded by a competing study conducted by Tennessee Tech University and funded by Tennessee-based glider manufacturer Fitzgerald Gliders, which found that newer trucks “in some instances” emitted more harmful emissions into the air than glider kits. The Trump-era EPA has cited this study as a reason for rolling back the Obama-era standards limiting glider kit production. However, Tennessee Tech’s own faculty senate has condemned the study as biased. The school’s president, Phil Oldham, said last February that the school would launch an investigation into how the Fitzgerald-funded study was conducted to ensure that proper scientific and educational standards were followed

One of our 2017 T-680s was having issues with the 10 speed UltraShift plus transmission. Didn't want to shift right and or couldn't find the next gear. The drivers had to either put it in neutral or pull over, and kill the batteries for 30 seconds.

I sent it in to the shop and they said it needs a clutch and an ECU. Oh, I forgot to mention that it only has 350,000 miles on it. I guess it double clutches all but 2 gears.

I don't think we've had an automatic (automated) that had a clutch last more than 450,000 miles. Our manual transmissions last well over 700,000.

I don't order them. I just drive them and schedule the maintenance & repairs.

Our older auto Volvos had lots of issues but the drivers liked them other than when they were broke down.

Our new Pete autos have been pretty trouble free, but the drivers hate them. I’m not sure exactly why, I’ve got one with a 13 speed in it. Our guy that orders likes the autos, I think he said they were cheaper now.

They get 5 at a time, and ask the drivers which they prefer, then order that. A couple of guys who were in the minority swapped trucks so everyone was happy. My group was 4/5 for manual. I won’t be driving for too many more years, my goal is to NEVER drive a truck with an automatic transmission. I’d also prefer a CAT, but I guess that’s likely not happening. This Cummins X-15 sounds like someone stirring a wooden box of rocks with a broom handle. It runs ok, 500 hp and we’re about 70 percent light loads.

We have our shift points adjusted on all of our autos. The factory settings are horrible.

The autos are getting better. I don't hate them as much as I did when I started driving them. You still have no finesse when trying to move just a little, especially in reverse. I know our drivers in big cities like Indy and Chicago like the autos. I can see why. But in our usual routes, we don't have traffic but a few select spots.

My understanding is that CAT got out of the On Highway business altogether because they didn't want to have to deal with meeting emissions standards.

Speaking of that, I would imagine Cummins would be working on new X15s ahead of EPA2020.
