Had a few folks ask if we were taking on people for the upcoming crisis.
I asked what they had to offer. The answer from both was "not much"

I did not respond after that.

I can't believe you missed the chance to tell them you had all the cash and grass you need, and then take a step closer to them...

Trying to find the silver lining in this crisis. I think these situations open the eyes of the middle of the road people. The people that aren’t really political. They didn’t care anything about the 2nd amendment last month, but they have cared enough to spend hours in a gun store trying to purchase a firearm, this week. This has been a very educational experience for them. They have had their eyes opened widely to the red tape involved in trying to purchase a item that is constitutionally guaranteed.

These people weren’t rabid anti gun folks, but rather the ones that hadn’t really picked a side before. Most of these people have been educated by this crisis. We are gaining allies, and I welcome them.

My friend that owns an LGS said he has had the most insane requests from new gun owners. When he asks for ID and hands the 4473 to them they have no idea what to do. Many have said what is this I am just buying a gun. They really had no idea there were checks and balances in place. A couple got mad and said this is not what I understood the process to be. Mike just responds "This is the real world friend. Not the one CNN says it is" and they really are un-educated.

More than a few freaked when refused.

As I said earlier, most are not the rabid anti gun, liberal idiots. Most everyone has been very polite, but because of the crisis, they are becoming a little more aware, that ultimately They are responsible for their own safety. As pro 2A people, I think this is good for us. Perhaps for the first time in their lives, these people are taking some responsibility for their own personal protection. They also get a glimpse of the bureaucratic red tape process that has been put in place by the left.

This shows what a powerful enemy the media has become with its false propaganda that lots of unaware people actually believe.

Buying a gun is just one small issue where they have mislead millions. Many other issues and lies remain unexposed to the masses.

I'm curious to hear more details of that statement... They wouldn't fill out a 4473 and freaked that they couldn't just buy a gun easier than fresh veggies, or they freaked when they found out their 4473s were denied?

Also... First time I bought at an FFL I didn't know WTF I was doing either, so, I can't judge them. I was glad I went to a small LGS who had the time to explain the process to me. I knew the concept, but I didn't know how tricky some of the questions could be read or what the process actually was. Right now would be a terrible time to need hand holding like I did.

Most people do not know what the gun buying process until they go through it for the first time. I was surprised that I could walk out of my LGS with a gun in just a few minutes. Combine the ignorance of the process with the anxiety of feeling a need for a gun and it's easy to see that there would be some really weird exchanges between the buyer and the gun store employee. Then add the stress that the employee has, dealing with newbies AND people that he/she does not know and if they may have been exposed or aren't taking reasonable precautions. Paranoia on both sides.

While there are apparently a large number of new gun owners, how many of them will have NO training and less common sense?

"To allow a firearm to point at another human being is a deadly threat, and should always be treated as such."

So, how many nOObs are getting capped in gun stores for flagging employees?

A whole scary bunch of them.

Then, RSOs will humor them through the sign-up process at a range. The new gun owners and their friends will then go to the range, each with a whole box of ammo. Chances are they will need to borrow a stapler. They will then shoot up everything they brought in about twenty minutes, dumping all 50 rounds into one target, remark how quick they used it all up, stand downrange and point at the holes in their targets, claim they will be back again and then never be seen again.

Just speculating here that after they return home they remember their range trip fondly and brag to their family, co-workers and friends who weren't there how great of a shot they were, or how disappointed they were in their sucky gun because they couldn't hit anything with it.

A buddy who has never considered owning a gun sent me a text today asking if I had any guns I was thinking about selling.

I asked him if he was in the market for something to use to protect his homestead. His answer was "kind of."

Sounds like a prime candidate to discuss your generous financing terms on your [strike]highly rusted garbage[/strike] historic family heirlooms. In this market, I'd say 10 points a week is about right.

It was "cash" that threw me off. I always heard and saw it as "gas, grass or ass". :):

I've heard it both ways, and well, that saying is also before my time. So... I winged it.

Besides, I've learned in the prepping forum that CM will always take more gas, so that just wouldn't be a plausible joke.
