She doesn’t have to get it, she can just bring the virus back with her. Besides, she has already said that she is not worried about getting it because she is as “healthy as a horse”.

    Irrational.
Yes it is possible to bring it home without getting it herself but then she would have to stay out of the house or she would almost certainly get it from him so that is pretty much ruled out. Her 'healthy as a horse' attitude is just more irrationality. Locking her out would only be temporary.

The availability of Google images, 20 lb bond paper and a printer says that notes from an employer are about as useful as notes from Mommy. If there really was a lockdown and manned security posts/checkpoints, I assume there would be a higher grade of documentation/clearance necessary to pass.

Watch a movie. Don't worry. Be happy.

I took it to mean when she says she is healthy as a horse she means she will survive it when she does get it, and that is where the idea of her being motivated to kill him could come from. If not motivated, then she needs to be made to understand that we are contagious two weeks before we show symptoms and learn some compassion.

because the **** that has managed to stay open will then close, and then there will be NOTHING. This whole thing has reached the point of sheeple ridiculousness.

Oh yeah, I see your point. We just have differing opinions on how important it is to stop the spread. Many people are not going to restaurants(etc.) now and I don't think that will change if the virus is raging across the country. The worst case scenario for businesses is the spread of the virus to the point where people will stay in their houses anyway or try to get medical care from a system that can't handle them. The best case scenario for businesses at this point is to contain as much as possible and keep the infection rate as low as possible until there are better treatment options or a vaccine.

And then there is also the fact that I am prejudiced since I am old.

Can you give an example of this unchecked power? And not a hypothetical, but one you've actually seen?
Imo, a pandemic like this is one of the few reasons for which we have given governors this power. If we start to see some actual bill of rights violations then I think we have something to talk about, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Go read the emergency powers the governor has. It's in black and white. I don't deal in hypotheticals

I will tell you that IngoMike and I are on the opposite sides of the "lOckDoWn" debate, but it is absolutely going to kill the economy. Are you going out to eat anytime soon? Nobody is. The restaurant business is dead. The hotel business is dead. Airlines, all manner of service type stuff, erased. This is not for two weeks, unless the miracle drugs are tested and proven and distributed. This could be for a long time. If there is no drug we live in fear of infection for a long time, maybe a year. If there is a miracle cure we have still already destroyed many lives but many can recover. This is not meant to be fear mongering, but if you haven't thought this through you need to..
My argument comes as two parts; valuing humanity more than the economy, and actually having a significant portion of humanity left to restart the economy.
This is probably the difference between me and those that don't want the shutdown, actual deaths from infection.
Nothing is ever dead. when demand returns so will all of these businesses. Assets are assets. They may change hands, but they will still exist for consumers when the demand returns and it will. As soon as the threat from this virus subsides and people are cleared to resume life we will see a boom again in this country. I'm not saying it's going to be an easy road in all areas. I'm not saying we wont see some companies close or go into bankruptcy protection. Some people will be screwed even more than they are now. Its inevitable.
But theres gonna be big winners too.
I hope our farmers have a great year. They need it. We will see.
Jobs will return. Even if people get new jobs in different fields we will have jobs. We will come out strong.

Maybe I overstated it in my passion to convince baddog that the ramifications of a lockdown were great. My heart breaks for guys like Vigilant and many others who are dependent on the restaurant industry, just one example. There’s no insurance for this, some will lose everything if they can’t adapt and it just seems so unfair. The argument for lockdown is not taken lightly, at least by me.

We have 17 in our ER. Normal would be 45.

We have seen 123 today. Normal would be 200.

My wife's dental office is closed. My salary will be decimated as I see covid patients.

This has really taught me the value of an emergency fund and to live below your means. This will hopefully teach that lesson to a lot of people

Please explain. Why would that be? Does it matter what the patient presents or is it numbers or what?

The level of awesome to this exceeds any point system applied.

I never listened that closely to the musical complexity of this song, but I just came across this on YouTube. Quite worth the watch, IMHO. There's a lot going on with that piece.

Statistically speaking, today (Friday) looks like it was a good day. About the same number died as those who died yesterday. And while that is sad, a tragedy for the families, it does offer some hope that the drastic steps taken to keep people away from each other may be working.

I'm not saying for sure that it is or has been effective. Just that the numbers suggest a slight reprieve, if just for a day.

ER doc's get paid by headcount?

We get paid for what we do. We have five levels of charges based on complexity of the complaint and what we do for the workup. More tests and prescriptions/meds is more complex and higher charge. Then there's a critical care charge. We add on things like EKG charge, bedside ultrasound, splinting, sutures, etc.

Please explain. Why would that be? Does it matter what the patient presents or is it numbers or what?

See above. I get paid to do stuff. More people equals more stuff.

We have not changed our staffing in case there's a surge. 40% lower volume likely wipes my bonus and doesn't allow for standard salary. We will pay PAs and office staff full rate and just eat the difference in our checks

I had no idea my ER doctor might get paid on the same basis as a car mechanic. That's pretty terrifying on a number of levels. I figured you guys were straight salary or maybe salary + O/T because of the crazy hours sometimes. Looks like I was wrong...

Damn. Sorry to hear that. On the flip side, if nobody is coming in sick, that's actually good news.

...or, if we shut our doors to China, no more problems! This is the 3rd outbreak in 20 years traced back to Chinese wet markets. I hope people have enough of it this time and we're done with the commie SOBs.
