I don't doubt it for a minute. I have a friend who is an ER doc, and I also have many ER nurse friends from when I worked at the hospital. Not only is it that bad, but they have little or no PPE. They are wearing bandanas over their mouths and garbage bags for gowns.

I am not aware of a hospital in town without proper PPE. Our ICU is not falling apart. When they say "it's bad" they mean the disease process can do bad things. Not that hospitals are overwhelmed.

Our ICUs are not full and we're not boarding admitted patients in ED like we had been. November through February

Anyone looking to disinfect hard surfaces (i.e. your amazon boxes, your kitchen countertops etc) Might take a look at steramine (Amazon linky here). It's a very long lasting pill that dissolves in water and makes a blue food safe sanitizing liquid. It's common on prepper lists because it basically lasts forever until it contacts water and the soluble coating dissolves, doesn't smell as much as clorox wipes do, and one bottle makes a LOT of sanitizing solution

I still hope I am wrong. That this is not nearly as lethal as I think by following the science.
I have read everything from a 33% ICU rate to a .07% ICU rate. It is not easy to sift through what is real and what is opinion.

My worst case is bad. My best case is bad. The reality is well bad.

Maybe we come up with an effective treatment and this becomes nothing. One can hope, but not survive on it.

Sorry, science is not computer models and predictions in my book...

I should have put a disclaimer that I am in NW Indiana, not Indy.

This is social media BS, right? I can't believe we wouldn't have heard about this.

I’ve heard from people with direct knowledge in Indy and this doesn’t seem to be the case. There are some bad cases and some otherwise healthy people in a bad way, but the numbers are low. If it’s the Apocalypse these folks claim, the people I know are hiding it well.

Can you tell me where and we can see about getting some equipment to them. No hospitals have reported any shortages to the EOC up here. You can PM me if that is more comfortable.

I think you are being smart.

I have been getting my mail bare handed and then throw it in the trash and wash my hands. Packages get stored for at least four days.

From now on I'm going to use a dedicated pair of gloves. Sooner or later I will get some mail that I need to open too. I guess those will have to wait four days.

I just spray everything down with disinfectant and let it sit. Throw away all of the packaging and wash my hands.

Had a FedEx overnight letter mailed to me today, signature required, he said they was waiving the sig required because of current events.

I had a nitrile glove on when he handed it to me, the second he walked away I sprayed both sides down and the nitrile glove with Lysol spray then nuked it in my old microwave in the garage for 10 seconds.

DIE DIE DIE, if anything was on there.

My late wife was a Lysol freak, when ever we went on vacation, she would almost empty a can on the bed and surrounding surfaces. I still have about 4 cans left.

Anecdotal yes, but my contacts in Indy's EDs have said the same thing. Obviously with no respect to actual numbers, but I had one tell me that in the course of one 12-hour shift they had three mid-30s males come in unresponsive (but breathing) and all three were put into an induced coma and on a ventilator in six hours or less, then moved into the COVID unit. And that number is growing every day. He used to be very skeptical about the whole thing until he saw these guys the same age as him being wheeled in and knocking on death's door during the course of a shift.

Doc, I'd love to hear your thoughts. As I said, it's word-of-mouth and anecdotal, but it's what I have. And I'm not pushing one way or another, just sharing the information. It is credible to me, as I have no cause or reason to doubt the source of the information.

If it doesn't have a name and details it is just BS rumors... To much of that running around here. We shut off that type of post for a couple of days but here they are back again.
