I get that, but over 3 times the population, not being able to see it coming from half-a-world away and prepare (like we could), and the population density in the urban areas, and its been going on there for how many more weeks than here?

    Forgive me if I'm skeptical.

I was just reading that Florida Governor DeSantis won't allow passengers to disembark from two (2) cruise ships in port.

    Link: https://apnews.com/5cc34440ec62c9394ad05c4fc8cc4dfe

To my thinking this is just not right. First, there are American citizens on board! They should be allowed off immediately, and then put in quarantine for the standard time.

But for all other citizens they also need to be allowed to disembark to receive the maximum chances of avoiding infection, receiving needed medical care, and surviving. This then sets a very strong precedent that we accepted citizens from other nations, so other nations should accept American citizens who may be seeking refuge and succor in foreign nations. Otherwise, other nations could easily justify turning non-citizens away.

And finally, it shouldn't need to be said, but it's just the right, moral thing to do. To help someone in need and desperate for hope, just getting them out of that dire circumstance is just plain right. Under any moral or religious code anywhere it is right to help people, even if it is doing nothing more than helping get out of harms way.

    Regards,

    Doug

Again this is similar to the NY governor. FL governor has a responsibility to his people, FL residents. You want him to endanger his people to allow people who did not head the warning of social distancing stay at home and instead decided go party on a boat.

    HELL F... NO!

    They made their choice!
Infected or not, no point in trusting them.
All it takes is one zombie bite. Nope! Pass!!

The people of FL will thank their governor later for keeping them safe. Those on the boat can try somewhere else! Bye!!!

I thought that at the time they made their choice, they were being told it was OK to cruise. Look back a month at what was being said from those in charge.

Yeah the people on those cruise ships made the STUPID decision to board them during a freaking pandemic helloooooooo. Unless those cruises were the Gilligan island version and they've been missing what's been going on in the world for the last 3 months ?
So now they are winning their stupid prize. Staying on the pandemic ships in port.
I think the governor is making the right call. Hell yes I do.
If you are an acquaintance and show up at my door uninvited during major shtf thinking your getting a place to stay and fed, guess who's getting a rude awakening!

Just an FYI it is not just cruise ships. Here in Two Harbors we have a taconite ship in port with 130 on board(large raw iron form ship) with 3 positives on board. They are asking to disembark and stay in area hotels.

It is a bad idea considering the local hospital does not even have a ventilator, not one.The local population is only 1900 or so. 130 with who knows how many infected is a bad idea. They where already told no by Duluth as well.

Good solutions are tough to come by.

LOL, Right. Extreme exceptions can be made.
I'd try to get help for someone I knew if it was possible. But it's not going to be at my peril and I'm going to be even far less trusting after we hit that post event point. People will do anything to survive. Everyone outside of the circle is a potential threat.
Medical Doctors will be more valuable than head of state post shtf. I'd guard them with my life and supplies no problem.

They are quarantined just fine setting there on the anchored ships. We can chopper in supplies as needed.

Sadly these poor folks need to be examples that govt can't bail out ALL bad decisions.

Hopefully this is a lesson to dumb-asses all over the place that "YES, this does apply to you!"

Yep. People act like they are suffering or something. No. They are just isolated like they need to be. Also they aren't at any higher risk now of catching the virus on there than anyone is on land as long as they stay in their cabins. They will be fed and watered and can bathe.
